2016 Playoff Thread

there was no other way to do it because they just aren't anywhere near Chicago's level

Really? I think St Louis is a pretty stellar team. Super deep and talented. I wish the Leafs had that depth, although I'm hoping we get there sooner rather than later.

i think all things being equal chicago is the better team but to say st louis is nowhere near chicago's level is silly. st louis has been one of the best teams in the league the past few years. haven't put it together in the playoffs, but their D and forward dpeth are ridiculous. and with tarasenko they now have a legit star up front...

Out of all the teams in the playoffs there is Nashville and maybe 1-2 other team worse(maybe Wild and Flyers?). You have Caps, Pens, Hawks, Kings, Stars, Ducks, Sharks who have a lot more ELITE talent. I'd love to see this team coached by anybody else pretty much and you'd see that they'd be barely hanging on to an 8th spot. They do well because Hitch knows how to get most out of them by utilizing players correctly(they are balanced..reminds me a bit of Bruins several years ago..not much elite talent but many 2nd liners). The thing is if you open it up against better teams(which was my point earlier) you will pretty much always lose to the teams above because they have way more 1st line talent and so you must play a certain way and that's what they did.

I don't know who has the defensive depth that St Louis has. Bouwmeester, Shattenkirk, Pietrangelo, Parayko(stud), Gunnarson. Along with some pretty good depth offensively. Terasenko is a nasty player now. St Louis is a damn good team. Considering it went to game 7 where anything can happen someone had to win. Chicago historically has gotten some lucky bounces and thats sometimes what it takes. This time St Louis got the lucky bounce and are off to the next round.

If you are equating ELITE talent as the only measurement of a team that's a pretty obtuse view. I'm not even going to get into whether or not St Louis has ELITE talent or not.

The Blues D is elite as they come. Pietrangalo and Shattinkirk are elite. J-Bo has been an elite shutdown defenseman for a decade. And Parayko has been playing at an elite level this year.

They have Tarasenko who is elite.

And then probably the deepest forward group in the league with Steen, Stastny, Backes, Schwartz, Fabbri, Berglund, Lehetra, Brouwer and Ott.

That team is really, really good on paper. Hitch is also a great coach, and has the team playing great hockey. They aren't mutually exclusive things. Joel Quenville is also a great coach, and that doesn't take away from the Hawks talent level. On paper the Blues are arguably the most talented team left.

Defence wins championships and the Blues have the best in the entire NHL. Their forward group does have nice depth. They are missing the amount of "Elite" forwards of a lot of other teams as only Tarasenko is one. But with the blueline, it makes up for it.

And BTW, Toews better start scoring more. The NHL's highest paid player for that production?

This place has become more like gossip between women with comments like this(which in general there's nothing wrong with but it's become so boring and obvious what some of the posters will say that i just mostly come on here when i see ME and few others post). That Hoss post though was just too stupid not to say something. But no, let's get back to some fantasy shit, some of you are really good at it. Maybe get into coaching and see how it works out for ya? Instead of coming back and explaining to me where i was wrong look at your comeback...St.Louis just defeated pretty much the most skilled team in the league(there was no other way to do it because they just aren't anywhere near Chicago's level) and you're still shitting on their coach? Everyone makes some small mistakes(and Babs will too) but you guys focus on some of the dumbest shit and make it seem like you'd do much better. It's unreal.

Wait... you know women?

No, this place is dying. Dying because it's gone from being a big forum full of lots of people discussing things to a small clique. HFboards is looked upon with a negative view (with good reasons), but it has something this place solely lacks. People & Hockey discussions ! People like you who only come here to read ME posts are part of the reason this forum is dying.
Amen. I really think it's time to get back to intelligent hockey discussions. I get that familiarity breeds contempt but people need to ignore those that irritate them and stick to the topic of conversation.

I like how the media makes this massive deal about Ovechkin vs. Crosby, while simultaneously making a story about how the story shouldn't just be about Crosby and Ovechkin.

Yeah I'm going with goaltending. But this wouldn't be the first time an unknown goalie pulls of a miracle
