2019 Carolina Hurricanes Off Season Thread

By the end of Game 3, Jeff Daniels was playing defense and the bench looked like a rec league game where only half the players showed up. Westlund and Langdon had game misconducts, Snuggles picked up a 10 minute misconduct, Karpa and Westlund had fighting majors, Daniels and Irbe had roughing minors. In all, the Canes has 71 PIM in the game with 54 in the 3rd period.

Hopefully enough folks have been exposed to this policy elsewhere or will get the message. This will be the default policy EVERYWHERE eventually. My daughter already has a clear backpack because of this from a previous concert at a stadium. This will cause chaos at the PNC gates early on especially if they 100% hard enforce it right away.

I guess Canes STMs will get a freebie clear bag out of this deal with details coming on how to pick that up. We have one of those ugly things already too.

Here is one scenario they better have covered. I get dropped off at the arena (Uber, friend, bus, whatever) for a Canes game. I go into the Eye and buy some merch before the game. Are they going to give me a clear bag? Because I can't bring that merch back to the car I don't have and apparently the regular white solid plastics bags they have been using for years would not be allowed through security now.

I expect they are thinking through things like this, but we know how that goes.

This is basically an extension of the bag policy at Carter Finley for football games and it's been a little bit bumpy over the last two seasons. It's tough on fans of visiting teams and people who don't come to a lot of games, which tells me that whatever they've tried to do by way of public education on the policy has NOT worked in the past.

I know one problem they're going to have for SURE. Kids in schools that have enforced "clear" plastic bag rules have generally been allowed to use clear standard sized backpacks and clear plastic bags with light patterns printed on them ... and this policy specifically prohibits those. Which frankly is kind of over-kill. Plus, this whole policy is squarely aimed at women. Men wouldn't give a crap for the most part, but the women I know don't like to have to give up their nice purses and bags for crappy clear plastic junk just to go to a game. To quote my Mom ... every time somebody figures out how to make one of those things cute, they put it on the prohibited list.

A hidden upside? Your clear plastic bag is perfectly fine on the floor underneath your seat, even when the moron behind you dumps an entire large beer on the floor after a goal. Wipe it off, move on with life.

NFL has had a strict bag policy for a while, I know for size of bags. I think they also require clear bags. Most purses are too big but the small purses are OK but it's not like they are giving up the purse for a long time or even a whole day.

Sure. Tell that to the women in your life and let me know how it goes.

I don't care and my wife is used to it by now, but I can guarantee there will be some hopping mad people at the home opener.

Yeah. Some people just like to be mad. Especially when they think the rules shouldn’t apply to them.

To be fair, many of them won't know the rules ahead of time. Same thing happened when State football made this shift in 2018. People aren't as plugged in as these venues want to think they are. Snag a ticket on StubHub or from a friend and roll to the game. Now, do ALL those people immediately dig into the venue's website to check the clear plastic bag policy that they know nothing about beforehand? No. They do not.

Just wait until they do one of those donation nights where they are asking people to drop off non-perishable food items or books or whatever and suddenly everyone is looking at everyone else wondering whether or not the bags being used to bring those items into the arena can go through the doors.

Fun times!

We do a donation drop at one State football game a year and they just shifted the donation barrels outside the security check point. Somebody actually thought ahead on that one ... for once.

I just saw a few college teams ban all bags , size does not matter. I guess you are limited to what goes in your pockets.

Any kid in diapers should not be at a game so the diaper bag rule is odd but I guess some parents might be too cheap for a babysitter.

That gives me hope that they will also be changing over to clear plastic bags at the Eye as part of this. Of course 12 inches x 12 inches might be a tight squeeze if you bought 3 sweatshirts and a mini helmet at the Eye before the game and now need to go through security to get into the game.

Some of you are tone deaf when it comes to how and who this will affect. This affects women and in a few minor situations, men.

I could be wrong but I think many younger women have a small bag for going to clubs so they won't need to buy something. Married women with kids may only have big purses.
