2019 NHL Entry Draft

Timmins getting cute again with the last two picks maybe? Trying to show he can find a hidden gem in high school or wherever. Seems to me there were a few more obvious picks at that point than the guys we selected.

He is strong on his skates and moves without defect. His top-end speed doesn’t hit a pinnacle gear yet, but he has some dynamic qualities when it comes to his edge work and quickness in starts and stops. Defensively, he is a smart player who manages risk and reward and is an effective shut-down guy at his foundation. He is strong on the wall even though he has some strength to gain and does a good job of gaining leverage and keeping his hands free to corral pucks. Strong on gap control, governing the net front and breaking out play as this is the area of his game that he prides himself on. He puts together a simple offensive game without much flair. Plays with simple, quick passes and makes the heady play to avoid being detrimental. Will go out of his way if he has room to create off the line or lead a rush but this was often left to other teammates. He’s highly mobile and loves to activate on the rush, accelerating quickly and utilizing strong edge work to remain elusive and methodical more so than cranking the throttle forward and attempting to blow past opponents. He doesn’t play a high-octane brand of skilled hockey, but he knows how to control the puck effectively and brandish his body if he must go to a tough area of the ice. His offensive game gained a lot of traction down the stretch thanks to his growing confidence in his abilities

Norlinder, a second-year-eligible draft prospect, started the season as an afterthought, playing in the Swedish junior circuit. But a midseason call-up and very strong performance versus men in the second half elevated his draft stock significantly. Norlinder so often showed the ability to use his skating to spin off pressure, lead rushes and gain the offensive zone with possession. His edge work is high-end. He has great mobility, but also has skill in his game. Norlinder often makes plays through defenders and has the vision to execute tough passes. His skill level isn’t high-end, but he has so much pace to his game and his ability to play so fast speaks to his hockey sense. Defensively he’s OK. He kills plays with his skating and showed he could defend fine versus men, but it’s not his area of strength.

NHL scout on Norlinder: “He’s a very good skater. Great edges, ability to rush pucks. He was one of MODO’s best players after he got called up to the big club.”
 
Would not have minded Beaucage, the next guy selected. Habs reaching with guys we will likely never hear from again as usual at this point.

Anttoni Honka & Mikko Kokkonen both played on te same team.

I always find it really interesting when players from the same team are picked back to back. If the player taken second becomes significantly better than the first one, that's a real issue on the scouts for team #1.
