2019-Whenever Misc. Grab Bag Thread

Three time Grand Slam tennis champion Naomi Osaka has invested in the NC Courage. Maybe Malik really is running out of money?

Nah. I mean, probably nah, at least.

Investing in minority shares of NWSL teams has become the hot thing for influential women both in and outside of sports since the star-studded Angel City ownership rollout. It's a lower buy-in than WNBA teams, so it's a bit more do-able for the well known who aren't super wealthy.

that reminds me how much do the minority owners put into Canes ownership? I know it's supposed to be confidential but I assume some of it leaks out . I think all or most of them stayed in when Dundon bought majority.

That has varied over time, but the initial buy-in for that last round that Karmanos brought in was roughly $250,000 each.

My wife was talking about that yesterday. While it's good news, but Village District is really a dumb name. She was most worried about the renaming of the library that is there. Currently, it is known as Cameron Village Library, or CAM if you're in the county library system. I say that they go with Central Raleigh. Or maybe jeffbear Memorial Library?

Egads! The logo! It's so bad. It looks like the designer originally did this in the style of a black metal band but then it got compromised down to this dreck. A friend renamed the area Live Laugh Love District based on this logo. Funny

The only thing they'd name after me over there is the laundromat and they gentrified that thing out of existence years ago. Seriously, that soulless new logo is perfect for what currently passes for Cameron Village. They stripped it of any vestiges of what it used to be a long, long time ago. Call it what you want, boys.

some of the apartments near CV are going to be torn down for condos

It looks better after they tore down the ugly elevated parking decks , I think that was around 1990 or so. If you never saw those decks you didn't miss anything.

Ha! Friend of mine caught some bum walking out with his clothes there one day in the 80s and had to chase him down.
Left some quarters at that place also.
Pretty sure that's the place I found some green stuff in my laundry one day and figured I just washed a couple quarter ounces.
Don't even remember the parking deck.
Had my knee bent the wrong way at the Underground at the 999 show. It's f'd to this day. Damned 19 years old thinking it'll mend all by itself. Nope.

That Medlin Davis laundromat is gone? Oh man, that was the one that I used when I lived on Wade. First the cafeteria then the laundromat? Booooo

What is good to see (or not see) at Williamsburg? Probably going there Sunday
Colonial Williamsburgh, I presume? Just do the basic tour if you've never been before. It's expensive but fun enough. Grab some peanut soup at the King's Arms Tavern for me ... that stuff is magic.
