2019-Whenever Misc. Grab Bag Thread

Cam Newton is lurking somewhere. :)
I mean, he's completely cooked. So, he'd fit right in with the rest of the guys in their QB room. May as well sign Cam Ward as Cam Newton.

It's sad to be in such sorry shape that you legit wish you had held on to Will Grier, but here we are.

Hey Mods,
Could we get a Hurricanes schedule as a sticky on this board? I have one bookmarked on my computers and I have a printed version on the cabinet door at my desk, but it sure would be handy to have one right here. If not, that's fine.

Slackitude and personal sloth are a way of life I haven't quite mastered, but I'm working on it...not too hard though. Gracias.

How about a link to the PDF on the Canes website?

BTW ... in case you thought the Carolina Panthers would stop being an utter embarrassment once they got rid of Matt Rhule, yesterday was probably a rude awakening for you. They got a defensive touchdown and otherwise produced 3 points against the Rams. They managed maybe one first down in the last 3 quarters, and benched PJ Walker for playing exactly like he always plays. Oh, and WR Robbie Anderson got tossed off the sideline for arguing repeatedly with the coaching staff. Double oh, and they made it public that they're looking to trade MacCaffrey before the deadline. You know, their only decent player on offense.

Fun times.

Robbie Anderson was tossed all the way to Phoenix, traded to the Arizona Cardinals.

Edit: they get a 2024 6th rounder and a 2025 7th rounder.

I believe that's a trade that keeps giving too...the Panthers get $20 million in dead cap space for that skinny little tool that really seems to be a cancer on most teams. But he played in college at Temple for Rhule so he must be great right...

More than I thought they'd get, but the dead cap space makes those two picks pretty bleeding expensive

McCaffery should be traded for his sake. He needs to be with a contender. He doesn’t need to be another Barry Sanders wasting his career on a loser.

Look I won't say Baker has been good.. (He hasn't) but Our O line is still a bunch of turnstiles and supposedly it's "improved" So far I haven't seen it.
Moton Elfheim Christiansen and the #6 pick aren't good at all at blocking a guy from getting to the QB.. Also Our play calling has left much to be desired.. I can't imagine Allen or Mahomes being world beaters with our play calling behind this line..
Baker actually looks better on bigger drop backs where he has a chance to avoid a rusher.. (Still a bunch of Meh) We need an upgrade at QB but We need an O line that doesn't fold like a House of cards in a light breeze..

That franchise is a mess and the owner looks inept for lack of a better word...word out of Charlotte is that most of the hard core fans are ready to jump off the Titanic before it completely hits rock bottom.

I haven't watched a ton of them this season, but I understand the offensive scheme hasn't changed much ... and it's a joke. That doesn't help anybody. The last thing NFL o-lines need is to have to block guys who know what's coming. That NEVER goes well.

And yeah ... MacCaffrey isn't somebody I like or care about at all, but they should get what they can for him ASAP. He's porcelain fragile and RBs are a short shelf life product to begin with. I'm serious. ANY substantial offer for the guy should be accepted. He'll be lucky to still be in the league in 2 years and this team is gonna suck a lot longer than that.

Civic Reminder ... NC's early voting period for the 2022 election starts tomorrow (10/20) and runs through 11/5. You can find info here

Remember, we've got Raleigh municipal elections as well as National, State and County offices on the ballot this time. Do your homework and do your civic duty. Unless you don't live here, in which case please do the thing in your own area.

Exactly. Why anyone would for election day to vote is beyond me.
And I hope the good ol' legislature isn't considering eliminating it in the future.
But who knows what they have planned.
It's too popular to totally eliminate. Plus it makes election day better for poll workers ... who are usually active in their local party.

Isn’t voting early like deciding who won the game after the second period?

I get that everyone has their minds made up but isn’t that mindset part of the problem?

It’s like we’re fans of a team - which it shouldn’t be. We should listen to the case being made by the candidates and choose based on the totality of the information available at the end.

Instead we vote for Team Red or Team Blue so we don’t need to pay attention to what they say I guess. Happens both ways but it’s 100% of why we can’t believe someone could vote for “insert your monster here”. Better than voting for the other team I suppose.

[steps down from soap box and walks sadly away]

Look I get there can be instances that something that happens days before would cause me to change my mind.
(the Guy in Arizona I think) but as a whole I research the candidates.. And then I decide.. and it's done.. I don't hem or haw over it..
There is little that the candidates could do to change my mind.. (Short of things like that guy I'm referencing (Not mentioning party cause that part honestly doesn't matter))

Staying (For @jeffbear 's sake) non party: Remember Greenlight in Wilson? Remember when Salisbury tried to do the same thing? (They beat the deadline) If they got it through before the State Congress made it illegal for any other city to provide internet to their residents instead forcing you to go to private companies.. I have a list of EVERYONE that voted to make it illegal.(Most of BOTH parties) And everyone that did I voted against in the primary.. 100% But in the general I had to compare 2 people and even if that was a black mark on their record It was just one thing I disagreed on.. It was a big demerit.. but yes it could be overcome.. a) only thing I didn't like about them B) Their opposite was far far worse in overall.

Compare that to the Spectrum AT&T and other providers charge..

Yeah, I'm not sure what kind of info could come out on Budd or Beasley that would change my mind about who I intend to vote for in that race. I'm much closer in sharing fundamental values with one of the candidates and not the other. My mind is made up at this point and I'm OK with it. I need to do more research on the hyperlocal candidates, but that won't take much time.
