2019-Whenever Misc. Grab Bag Thread

Penn St. is by far #1 in Penn with number of college fans, Pitt is 2nd but probably not close. Their stadium is over 100k which is not common up north except for them, Michigan and Ohio St. But they cram people in like sardines. Panthers stadium might hold 100k if they took out seats and used benches.

The Big Sky Conference, which is FCS, canceled football this fall. Eastern Washington is a FCS power, winning the 2010 championship, runner-up in 2018 and a 2 time semi finalist in the last 7 years.

No MAC Tuesdays this fall. The Mid-America Conference canceled football. They’ll try in the spring. They took a huge financial hit when the Big 10 eliminated non-conference games. Almost every MAC school had a game against a Big 10 school and were losing a combined $10.5 million. Northern Illinois forced the issue, telling the other schools they weren’t playing. Their president is a former research scientist at the University of Rochester School of Medicine.

The Power 5 commissioners had an emergency call today to discuss the fall sports season. It was apparently driven by the Big 10 presidents, who are ready to pull the plug on fall sports. Stay tuned, but don’t be surprised if football is a spring sport.

Matter of time at this point.

Elon is cancelling fall football, hopes to play in the spring. They’re members of the Colonial Athletic Association, which cancelled the season in mid-July. But there was still a possibility of conducting a championship if enough schools played in the fall. Once that dropped below 50%, the NCAA pulled the plug on contesting a national championship at the FCS level.

Same writing is on the wall for FCS schools as the big boys. It's just not worth the risk for the fall sports season and slowly but surely they're all figuring it out.

The dominoes keep falling. The Mountain West Conference has postponed all fall sports and will investigate playing in the spring. Conference USA hasn’t canceled yet, but Old Dominion has.

UMass, which is surprisingly an independent in football after leaving the MAC in 2016 (which somehow slipped under the radar) is postponing their football season until spring. They played in the MAC as a football only school for a few years and were kicked out when they refused full membership, staying in the Atlantic 10. They’ve only been full FBS members since 2013, playing as an FCS school until 2011.

The Big 10 has postponed the fall sports season and hope to play at least football in the spring. The Pac 12 may follow suit later today.

The Big South Conference, home to the Fighting Camels of Campbell University, has delayed all fall sports to the spring. The Big South competes in the FCS for football and Division I in all other sports.

Looking more and more like the ACC and Big 12 might be plowing ahead with fall sports, barring intervention from their Presidents and Chancellors
