2019-Whenever Misc. Grab Bag Thread

"Yeah, but" the sound of racists.

Is that how if works?!? Their frustration is not valid because you've never experienced it.

Enjoy your privilege. But don't be fooled, you are the problem.

The majority of the damage is coming from young, white knuckleheads. Some left wing anarchist kids (that probably have parents with money that will bail them out) and neo-nazis just wanting to cause extra problems. There was neo-nazi graffiti left around downtown Raleigh Saturday night. Other folks reported seeing those [goal horn] "proud boys" wandering around and causing problems as well.

Yeah, I'm not comfortable enough to say for sure who all was responsible for property damage in Downtown Raleigh. I do know there was some anarchist and neo-nazi tagging left behind (because I cleaned some up), and a bunch of miscreants on skateboards that were clearly not from our African American community were obviously involved in bad behavior (because I saw them). Saying that is NOT a "yes, but" reaction ... to Pat's point ... so much as telling you what I saw. That kind of mass reaction, in my experience, is rarely simple and clearly defined. The flashpoint however ... that crap is pretty freaking simple, and has to be addressed with more than another round of empty words and platitudes at this point. Or yet another batch of politicians who talk a better game than they deliver.

Appalachian State is eliminating men’s soccer, men’s tennis & men’s indoor track & field. Surprised no women's team is cut I assume due to Title 9

Bowling Green dropped baseball. Then the fundraising began, although not on GoFundMe, like UAH ice hockey. The article lists prgrams at otjer schools that have been dropped. Brown dropped 11 sports, including women’s equestrian. That was a varsity sport?

Skiing and rodeo were NCAA sports but I don't think they are now. Brown is Ivy League so those students can probably afford a horse and paying for the food, shelter , etc.

NCAA rifle has around 20 teams and it's coed. NCSU is the only ACC team in rifle. As you might expect Army, Navy, Airforce, VMI and the Citadel have teams.

I believe all the Ivy schools will give all students either grants or loans or both if they need help with tuition. Some of them say if your family income is below a certain level, you get a free ride. They can do that due to massive endowments. I looked into Stanford for grad school just for fun, and that was their policy - if you get in , we get you the money. Almost no way I was getting in. :)

Back in the Amato era a NCSU backup QB was also a rodeo guy. He was from out west. I think his name was Hannum.

And some will say that's not so.
Sure ... which is why getting away from the computer and the couch and getting out into the actual community matters. Not preaching at you here ... just commenting in general. 90% of the stupid things I've heard said over the last few days came from people who simply refuse to believe there's a world outside of their own, every limited experience. It's a problem.

This Ivy League graduate—while enjoying a comfortable upbringing—did not come from a family that could afford horses. Blanket statements like these are really frustrating to read.

I said "probably" which to me is not a blanket statement. Two reasons those schools have huge endowments : they have been around a long time, 300 years or more for some of them. And those grads often are in highly paid jobs where they can donate a lot back. As I said above some kids go to those schools with low incomes due to free rides. I know middle class people with horses because they have a lot of land. But those are not horses to compete with. I read an article about two women who compete in equestrian events. Their last names are Gates and Springsteen. Those names may ring a bell :)
