2020 NHL Entry Draft

My crazy opinion: Guhle will land in the middle of the Juulsen-Weber (Shea) spectrum.

Remember, most dmen are impossible to project. Lots of really good ones get drafted out of the top 10, including Weber who was drafted 49th overall. You should read the draft reports on Weber

Well Guhle said he likes to emulate physical aspects of Weber's game but skating from others. Admits his decision making with the puck could be better. He kind of sounds like a Jake Gardiner/Weber hybrid cause his skating is so good and maybe questionable puck moving decision skills (he's young, so hopefully he will improve this).

One analyst , forgot his name mentioned Ryan McDonough as a comparable

May not put up big points but solid 200 foot game and minute muncher

I'm not sure I'd judge someone for an incident when they were 14... it's completely reasonable to believe that they can become a far better person.

I don't know much about the kid, hopefully he actually became a better person.
not meant to pick on you HP - i just went to check if this was the same person GGpX warned us about

but the details are out and it is REAL FUCKING BAD - picking on a special needs kid

Miller admitted in an Ohio juvenile court to bullying Meyer-Crothers, who was tricked into licking a candy push pop that Miller and another boy had wiped in a bathroom urinal. Meyer-Crothers had to be tested for hepatitis, HIV and STDs, but the tests came back negative, according to a police report.

Miller and the other student were sentenced to 25 hours of community service for the misdemeanors, ordered to write an apology, participate in counseling and pay court costs.

The victim’s mother said that while the other bully broke down in tears while personally apologizing to her son, Mitchell never personally apologized.

He did send letters to all 31 NHL teams prior to the draft acknowledging his behavior and apologizing to them.

No worries. I completely stand by every word of what I said. I absolutely believe that it's wrong to judge someone by their worst action as a 14 year old, and they can change and become a better person, and maybe even a good person.

I knew very little about this kid. I knew that there was a pretty bad bullying incident when he was 14 but I didn't know the details or if he'd tried to make amends or if he'd become a better person.

If he never apologized for what he did, he likely hasn't become a much better person. He still can though.

I never did anything nearly this bad at 14... however, I am a 100x better person than I was at 14 years old.

Judging someone based on what they did squarely at 14 isn't the best, no.

However, I choose to judge that piece of shit as an 18 year old who has shown no remorse then or now about what he's done and has written statements showing how "sorry" he is. Statements that I would wager his agent wrote; the same agent that has probably coached him up with how to answer questions in team interviews.

I've heard and seen a lot stories from Junior players being assholes/bullies, who end up growing up real quick because sports has a way to humble arrogant players. Mitch Miller has given me no indication that he fits that bill.

If you want to continue to excuse his behavior because he was 14, feel free. That piece of shit's never taken any responsibility for what he did and now that he was about to get drafted, he apologizes to teams. There was a report that a bunch of teams took him off their board completely because he seemed insincere.

Random thought, those Arizona Coyotes statements are beyond laughable. They're literally a copy paste of wokeness written by a new intern in the HR department.

“Our fundamental mission is to ensure a safe environment — whether in schools, in our community, in hockey rinks, or in the workplace — to be free of bullying and racism. When we first learned of Mitchell’s story, it would have been easy for us to dismiss him — many teams did. Instead, we felt it was our responsibility to be a part of the solution in a real way — not just saying and doing the right things ourselves but ensuring that others are too," the statement said.

“Given our priorities on diversity and inclusion, we believe that we are in the best position to guide Mitchell into becoming a leader for this cause and preventing bullying and racism now and in the future. As an organization, we have made our expectations very clear to him. We are willing to work with Mitchell and put in the time, effort, and energy and provide him with the necessary resources and platform to confront bullying and racism. This isn’t a story about excuses or justifications. It’s a story about reflection, growth, and community impact. A true leader finds ways for every person to contribute to the solution. We all need to be a part of the solution.

Please, please, pleaaaaase shut the fuck up. You drafted him for the same reason the Kansas City Chiefs took a chance on Tyreek Hill despite beating his girlfriend, idem Kareem Hunt: They're undeniably good. They have talent. They can possibly put up numbers to help the team win games.

They don't care [much] about off the field stuff, unless they kill someone like Myles Bell did when he drove way too fast and killed his girlfriend before his draft in 2011.

oh i agree people can become better
we all should be trending in the right direction

but the lack of apology and the extreme nature of this makes me give him extremely little rope

The mother of the disabled kid said Miller’s friend apologized to the kid and family a while back but Miller never has offered anything resembling an explanation let alone an apology.

Kid is a pure 100% dickrash.

Yeah, I didn't know the details at the time and whether or not he had apologized and become a better person.

It sounds like he hasn't.

Even at 18 he has time to become a good person, but it appears as though he hasn't yet.

Coyotes just renounced his rights. Hey guys, quick google search before drafting might have been useful
They knew; everybody that follows draft prospects in-depth knew. They just didn't care because the player's talented.

But now that there's a PR blowback on a team that prizes itself on wokeness? Oh, now they care.

If he was a first round pick the Coyotes would’ve “figured something out” as they say. But he’s a disposable fourth rounder. Such is life.

Of course, but if there weren't any of the off the ice issues, he probably would have been an early to middle second round pick. There might have even been a chance he would have crept into the first round if a team liked him enough.

Alas, I don't feel bad for him. If this won't humble him enough to do some self-examination and soul searching, nothing will.

Define "the right thing." I'm not convinced at all that they believe they did the right thing at all, just the more convenient thing.

They deserve absolutely no credit whatsoever. Not one bit.

They don't care one bit about what that imbecile did; they care about the PR nightmare they're facing now, which is the only reason they took action. If there was no PR nightmare, Mitch Miller would still be a part of that organization and they would just continue with their lives.

Real change isn't succumbing to the Twitter mob and saying sorry sorry plz forgive us we understand your plight not really but plz forgive us we're so sorry, change is doing real tangible things without the having the eyes of the world on you, pressuring you into doing what you "should" be doing.

The Coyotes did what they believed was the right thing by selecting a player in spite of everything around him. What everyone believes is "the right thing" isn't necessarily a view held by everyone.
