2024-25 NHL Misc. Thread

Kaprizov also might be plenty interested in picking his next team for that mega contract. There will be LOTS of teams with enough cap room to pay him $15+ million. Being a UFA after this coming season is a pretty enviable position to be in.

It's not like he doesn't have an injury history, though. If he can play all games without any other leg injuries this upcoming season, then his gamble will pay off, but if not, he probably left a lot of money on the table.

I assume that Caps STMs will have to pay extra to get those 'collectable tickets'? If so, that is no different than what the Canes have offered for years, and not just to STMs.

I assume so. Airlines are starting to charge fees for printed boarding passes, and those look way more expensive that some dot matrix printed card stock.

Chris Johnston reports that the London 5 will be eligible to play on December 1. A contract can’t be registered until October 15 and they can start conditioning with the team on November 15.

Edit: all players except Formenton are UFAs. Formenton is a RFA on Ottawa’s reserve list by virtue of the qualifying offer they made when his previous contract expired in 2022. His contract in the Swiss League has an early release date, but, as with all RFAs, he’d have to sign by December 1 in order to play this season. Ottawa retains his rights until 2027, when he’d be a UFA.

Slugs signed UEFA goalie Alexandar Georgiev, 1 year/$825k. He finished a 3 year contract with a $3.4 million AAV signed with the Avs. The Slugs have a log jam in goal, adding him to a crease that already includes holdovers UPL and Devon Levi and Alex Lyon, who they signed to a 2 year/$1.5 million AAV contract on the first day of free agency.

The old throw enough 💩 at the wall something is bound to stick…out of four guys one is bound to be ok right?

I really expected Georgiev to sign as a backup behind an established vet to try and work his way back. Instead, he goes to Buffalo where they already have three guys to stock two NHL jobs. Kevyn Adams' logic remains absolutely inscrutable

Also, if I'm Devon Levi's agent I'm plotting ways out of town right now, if he hasn't already been doing so. He's 23 and has been their goaltender of the future for going on forever, yet they always seem to recruit over him. So after a season when they only found 9 NHL starts for the guy, he's looking at another year in the A since they brought in Lyons to be the backup, and potentially only a timeshare in the minors with freaking Georgiev. I mean, it's one thing to lose the job to Luukkonen, but he can't even get a sniff as the NHL backup at this point. For freaking Buffalo. Time for a clean slate somewhere else.

What makes it worse is who Adams gave up for Levi…Sam Reinhart. A RFA with arbitration rights, coming off his 4th straight 20 goal season and a 1 year contract that had a $5.2 million cap hit. Adams got Levi and a 2022 first rounder that he used to draft Jiri Kulich, a center that had 15 goals in 62 games last season. The Panthers signed Reinhart to a 3 year/$6.5 million AAV contract 3 weeks later.
