2024-25 NHL Misc. Thread

Our plan to completely ruin the Sabres for the sins of their awful fans by having Kevyn Adams hired as their GM has succeeded beyond even the most optimistic of expectations. Operation Dead Wings is in full operational mode as well. Godspeed!

That is a solid feel good move by the Pens. Unfortunately for the fans, honoring MAF this way might be the best highlight of the entire season.

The Alugs might have signed Georgiev because UPL is dealing with an injury.

He might have a strain to his gluteus maximus from trainers punting his butt, so he can be thoroughly prepared for having his ass kicked for real in the regular season. *guessing only*

Again, they already had two other NHL goalies under contract in Levi and Lyons. Lyons expects this kind of stuff after the career he's had, but I'm thinking Levi is probably sick of that franchise by now.

Elliotte Friedman says the Flyers are trading goalie Ivan Fedotov to Columbus. The Jackets have Elvis Merzlikens and Jet Greaves and it looked like Greaves was going to stick this year after spending his career bouncing between AHL Cleveland and Columbus. He played a career high 11 games for the Jackets last year, including their last 5, all of which he won, allowing 4 goals, pitching 2 shutouts and have a save % no lower than .951.

I mean, Fodotov was one of if not the worst goalie in the league last year, so Greaves is probably safe enough. One would assume that's a longer term re-build project for the Jackets. For a 6th rounder, fine. You never know. Get the big guy out of the looney bin in Philly, let him build up his game in the A and see if you can't find something there.

Aaron Portzline, who covers the Jackets for The Athletic, says that Fedotov is ticketed for the AHL. The Flyers didn’t retain any salary, so the Jackets are going to eat $2.1 million against the cap for him.

Yeah, that's the risk part. The 6th rounder is a throwaway, more or less. The Jackets are taking a $2 million gamble that they can get the big Russian's head straightened out given a season of coddling and coaching. As opposed to a season of getting his head ripped off by Torts 3 times a week. I don't think their other goalie prospects are particularly well thought off. So they get to end of the season a choose between Greaves and Fedotov to back up Elvis next year. They're both UFAs. That contract pretty much makes him immune from a waiver claim, I'd think. Again, the risk is the cash.

The Caps have placed assistant coach Mitch Love on indefinite leave, pending the results of a NHL investigation. He had interviewed for head coaching positions in Pittsburgh, Boston and Seattle after last season. Pens beat writer Josh Yohe confirmed that the Pens and others were aware of the investigation in April and May, which is probably why he didn’t get any of the jobs. But if many were aware of the 8nveatigwtiin, what took the Caps so long? Maybe they thought it would be favorably resolved before camp opened?

The Slugs placed Director of Player Development Adam Mair on indefinite leave earlier in the week after he was arrested for DWI.

DWI with some extra child endangerment charges I believe thrown in for having three young children in the vehicle while he was driving under the influence…what a careless, reckless and selfish act if found guilty.

Blackhawks signed dman Matt Grzelcyk to a PTO

Sharks signed forward Oliver Wahlstrom to a PTO. He also signed an AHL contract with the San Jose Barracudas.

Utah will place goalie Connor Ingram on waivers. He has 1 year left at $1.95 million. The crease inn Utah is full with Karel Vejmelka on a long term deal and Vitek Vanecekm who was brought in while Ingram was in the Player Assistance program. He was just reinstated from his 2nd trip through the program.
