2025-2026 Off Season Thread - The Rehappening

Mirtle just said Chicago, San Jose, Anaheim and Utah "could" make Marner a big money offer.

Like, no shit, all that says is that Mirtle can read a cap sheet

I find most people on tv/radio that give "Scoops" are often just spouting speculation I've seen already. Those are all the teams I would have named before I read that from Mirtle.

There will be a lot of articles like this in the coming weeks. "Reporter" need eyeballs on their postings and social meda warriors need content for their followers

Id ignore those twitter aggregators. They misquote/interpret the original source.

Mirtles article said Vegas are the favorites, Anaheim will be the high bidder and the Canes, Mammoth and Kings are expected to be in based on what people are saying at the combine.

It’s hockey reporting 101, and it’s pretty much all that most of these “insiders” do.

Make pretty obvious logical deductions based on publicly available information that any mook can look up with a an internet connection and a couple minutes of spare time, then repackage your conclusion as something that you’re “hearing” to give it the veneer of genuine insider information.

Anaheim is so irrelavent and lacking revenue in their market, they have to start winning. That's why they hired the creepy coach. So yes, they'll make a play for Mitch.

I mean more physicality would be nice but it's useless and even detrimental when the only physicality you have is from shit players. A lot of Florida's success is because they are physical and a pain in the ass to play against up and down the lineup. Let's not pretend that this battering and abusing and getting away with a bunch of horse shit hasn't been a huge factor to their success.

But of course, I'm not a big fan of this copycat thing. Teams win cups, a bunch of teams copy them, they fail. Another team wins a cup with a completely different playing style and dna, teams copy them, fail. The cycle always repeats. Leafs have a mega talented core offensively. Maybe just try building around that for once and try being an elite offensive team.

That's the key point. Of the core, Knies was the only one who really showed he was willing to eat shit to try and score those hard to come by goals

It’s late in the game to do it, as they should’ve done it from the start, but they should definitely go in this direction now. Losing Marner would not be a good start to it, however.

We know Berube totally loves offense, so just give the man what he wants.

Yeah, I heard the original line in Wizard of Oz was "There's no place like Edmonton."

But no one could keep a straight face by the time she said it the third time.
You assume 2 things:

1. That Edmonton is that bad, and
2. That Toronto is that great.

Having lived in both cities I can assure you that both of those assumptions are completely and utterly wrong. And when you make the kind of money that McDavid makes, you can be happy living damn near anyplace.

Remember that during the season, between playing 82 games, half of which are on the road, a half dozen or so preseason games, playoffs (4 rounds in Edmonton, 2 rounds in Toronto) and practice time, most players wouldn't even know what city they live in. And in the off season they can afford to spend time on a beach in Bali or a villa in Tuscany. So really, who gives a shit what city A has to offer versus City B when you dont have the time to avail yourself of those amenities?

The only "tie-breaker" that really matters when you make that much cash is taxes, and last time I checked, they're much lower in Edmonton than in Toronto.
