2025-2026 Off Season Thread - The Rehappening

Florida having a keen eye for undervalued players scares me here. They could get it wrong and Marner could continue to be a regular season merchant but if they can get him over his playoff mental block the Leafs will once again look like dummies

They will 100% look like dummies here.

We’re talking about a guy who is 7th in scoring since he came into the league. And at some point he’ll figure out how to score in the playoffs.

That, and Florida won't need Marner to win for them in the playoffs. They already know how to do that.
 
Unless they let Ekblad and Bennet go and they add marner to replace Bennett (obviously) and Seth Jones makes Ekblad redundant.

I could see a world where marchand stays, they sign marner 8x12 and we sign bennet and Ekblad.
And they will stay real good

Ditto, there is no way to come out of this without management looking bad. We have no trade chips to replace him & UFA class isn’t strong enough to make better use of the $12-14 mill we will save by letting him walk. Likely will spend the money on junk that will fuck with our cap for the next 5-7 years.
 
Every option on the table sucks balls. My favorite one is the least realistic, and that's to sign Marner and trade nylander for a #1 d that likely isn't even available. Even that option sucks balls. So I'll just sit back and bitch about whatever decision they make.
 
I’ve read a lot about chatter about talks at the draft combine. Just be patient, I think this summer will be quite active and names we didn’t think of will become available.
