2025-2026 Off Season Thread - The Rehappening

Treliving should never have been hired in the first place. This market is a job for an exceptional GM, not an average or below average one.

Pizza boy never should have gotten another GM job again period after the smoking ruin he left behind in Calgary. Not to mention the lengthy record of playoff failure.

I don't think there's anyone who likes the attention more than Marner. He revels in it.

Of course he doesn't like the negative attention and criticism, but all his teammates have the same situation, he's lived in it for 10 years, it can flip and burst through the other end of the spectrum if they win, and so on.

I don't buy it, not after watching him for all these years. He liked it in junior, he liked it at the WJC, he liked it at 4 Nations, and he's liked it as a Leaf. If the Leafs finally get over the hump, there's nothing he'd like more. So he's willing to just bail now over a few bucks or hurt feelings over the trade thing or criticism after the FL loss? It just doesn't resonate.

Everything about Marner screams Southern California or Vegas vibes.

Big time quality of life, still in the limelight on a decent team but zero pressure attached.
This idea that Toronto is the only place where there's pressure is ridiculous.

He's not going to escape pressure in Vegas or LA. Sure, it's not as intense, but it's still a big deal. If he was on Florida right now and they lost the next two, he'd be feeling it.

there is no helping you.

Yes, he loves being loved, but he hates being criticized or called out for being a soft little bitch, which he is.

He probably very much thinks the team, fans and media are at fault and he did nothing wrong and wants to be left alone.

Its not even the same sport.

The Kings are the Western Conference Leafs and at absolute most they get some criticism for about 3 days after they lose in the first round and not one singlular player is scapegoated ( held accountable) for it.

I'm on one end and you guys are on the other, where you've bought into this he's a little bitch narrative and completely disregard everything else.
You might possibly be the worst judge of character i have ever seen. Or you are just hardwired to think everyone should love playing in Toronto, especially if they are born here.

Lets go back to the Pietrangelo saga. You could not comprehend forever how he didnt sign here.

I don't see any evidence that supports your end. I do agree that he would have loved for it to work, but you said yourself that he doesn't look like he's having fun anymore. I agree with that. This market sucked the life out of him, and in some ways it's not his fault. That amount of failure in the spotlight is not healthy for anyone to go through every day.

Marner must read every single word that is written about him.

That doesn’t seem to be a problem for Nylander

Which is weird, because other than shortly after Marner's 1st contract negotiation, and then after last season's playoff failure, historically Willy has eaten way, way more shit than Mitch.

Meanwhile, if social media is to be believed, Willy spends half of his time walking around Toronto taking pictures with random people or riding the TTC. Completely unfucking bothered by the pressure in Toronto.

I just wish he would back check once in a while.

Marner was overwhelmingly loved here. I’m sure there were loud idiots, but it’s pretty weak that derailed his entire mindset.

The reason he can’t deal with that is the same reason he couldn’t pick Bobrovksky out of a lineup.

It must be because of the Sweden connection. Salming and Sundin were royalty here.

I think being Swedish has something to do with it, but not necessarily because of Mats and Borje. For the most part, they all seem to just be chill guys who don't let the external shit get to them.
Sundin, according to his book, really felt the pressure. But you would never have known it
