No. I hope Vancouver can find a way to extract as much young talent and decent players in that trade because I’m willing to bet it’s New Jersey or nobody for Quinn Hughes and that limits the return unless a third team gets involved.

Like one of my friends on staff at the paper told me just a couple of weeks ago, they need images for the digital feeds so the guys with cameras are more essential.

Apparently his agent is smart ... checks ... it's Pat Brisson at CAA, so yeah. That makes sense. Always try to create market competition even if it's an illusion. Honestly, Quinn Hughes would absolutely rock in Carolina's man to man system, but ... hey. It's a cross between a smokescreen and a Plan B in case he can't make the dollars work in Jersey.
 
I think the Canes would be better served using their cap space and any trade assets to find a legit #2C instead of a high end elite puck moving LHD who is going to be demanding $12+ million per.

Would love to have Quinn Hughes on the Canes, but I think the trade asset cost would be substantial and obviously we are not sure if Quinn would want to play for the Canes.
 
Hmm...wonder what happened there. The Wolves are winning recently and somehow managed survive the Canes pulling all of their top DMen for a period of time.

True. But what if you could get Q Hughes this season and then flip him to New Jersey in the summer? He's signed through next season after all and the Devils have already been gearing up for a big offer so they can get exclusive bargaining rights for a whole season. Tulsky is just the wild-eyed GM you'd need to make that kind of deal work.

If Abbott was resisting playing Carolina's systems then they really had no choice ... and that makes it sound like that was the issue. If you just want to win games in the A, then I see why you'd be tempted to play the trap and zone stuff. But that ain't your decision to make. I've only watched parts of a couple of Wolves games but they were NOT playing man to man in the D zone when I watched.
 
Basically the arguments for any Cup contender (like the Canes) to make a big trade for Quinn Hughes NOW:

1) Absolutely worst case scenario, you get 2 Cup runs with Quinn Hughes
2) You have a huge advantage in being able to offer Quinn an 8 year deal (as opposed to a 6 year MAX UFA deal if he plays it out that way)
3) If he is unwilling to sign an extension, he can be flipped for a whole bunch of assets (ie the Rantanen scenario, but you can get 1 Cup run with Quinn Hughes)

I mean, that all makes sense.

So, let's go ahead and start to piece together what an offer from the Canes might look like for Quinn Hughes for THIS season:

Carolina trades:

Whatever 2026 1st round pick the NYR don't end up with
Dallas' 2028 first round pick
K'Andre Miller

(Substitute Bradley Nadeau in for one of those 1st round picks instead)

Canucks Trade:

Quinn Hughes

OR if you want to try to get a bit cuter than that:

Matthews Arena, the home of Northeastern University in Boston's men's and women's hockey teams, and the oldest arena still used for hockey in the world, will host its last game this weekend. Northeastern is tearing it down to build a new arena.

The Canes connection? When the franchise debuted in 1972 as the Boston-based New England Whalers, it played its home games as Matthews (when it was still known as Boston Arena). The arena was also the original home of the Bruins, and the NBA's Celtics.
