It honestly wouldn't shock me. Tro's deal is whittled down to the point where you could reasonably expect a couple of years of service and then think buyout. At less that $6 mil AAV and with a Cap that's continuing to rise, that's hardly even a risk anymore. I'm sure they'd prefer a younger option, but quality 2Cs remain thin on the ground. As the Rangers continue to spiral, I'm still thinking that the Canes might finally find our Vincent Trocheck replacement via a trade for....Vincent Trocheck. Its a shame his current contract has 3 more seasons after this once which takes him into his mid-30s....but he can still play and is still that +++ RH faceoff guy we have never been able replace. His $5.625 million AAV is a now a bargain really for all he does.
In addition to his general level of play, Vinnie also provides a little bit of shit stirring which is something this Canes team could use as well. They're a bit snarlier this year, but mostly in reaction. It would be nice to see a little more initiation. Nikishin is going to bring more of that as he gets more comfortable with finding the right situation to bring the boom, but I'd love this team to be that little bit more annoying to play against.
