2025-26 Canes Miscellaneous Thread

Well, they gotta talk about something. And tailgating, watch parties, Staal, the Stanky line and us rehabbing defensemen left right and center have all gotten old. Vegas is gonna be stuck talking about Torts’ stupid thing with the suitcase for a while win or lose this weekend. Which is why he said it … to take the heat off of questions about his own goalie and what they’re going to do to replace Karlsson.
 
Hoping that Torts has to eat his words and his clothes need to be shipped to Vegas or wherever. I have every idea that he's not got Raleigh on his vacation hot spots map if things don't go their way. Maybe he just needs some new threads?

My theory - the NHL took over ice prep at all playoff locations a couple of years ago to ensure that the ice also sucks during the early rounds. That way the fans and players get acclimated to bad ice early and complain less when it sucks during the Finals. There are so many whiffed passes in the first round these days, and the buildings are a good 5-10 degrees warmer than in the regular season. That ain’t because it’s hot outside.

That was a great article! For most of us in here that follow this team game in and game out, a Cup win is going to be extra special for the long timers like Svech, Aho, Staal, Slavin, Martinook, etc…the guys that have been through all the highs and lows of this team and these playoff runs…that article exemplifies perseverance and how hard it is to win this damn Cup.
 
Fitting end to the season, I thought … Staal getting the Conn Smyth for leadership as much as those goals in the Finals. No one player really carried this team at any point. Plenty of guys took a turn as the hot player of the moment, but even their leading scorers never really got on any kind of prolonged hot streaks. It was an all hands on the oars kind of year for a team that was very much built to play that way.
 
The Final, game by game:
1 - lost in regulation
2 - tied after regulation
3 - tied after regulation
4 - won by 1 + ENG
5 - won by 2
6 - won by 2 + ENG

See any pattern there?

Heard one of the post game discussions that touched on if teams would copy what the Canes have built and the answer was basically how do you do that without RBA and a full roster of players willing to play this way. Pretty much said good luck with that.
 
There is nothing boring about this team. If Colorado or Toronto played this exact system and won with it, it would be touted the greatest hockey of all time. Put Carolina in the name and 'insert insult here' lazy press, lazy fans...just hate to hate.

This team was fun as hell to watch - no one outworked them, they were fast and they were north south for 60 minutes. SUCK IT

There’s plenty to learn from Carolina about roster construction though, and sticking with good leadership even if there are ups and downs along the way. The specifics might be hard to replicate, but there’s a lot of lessons to be learned here if teams are willing to block out the moronic narratives.

Mick agrees with this. Mick is a funny guy and the only sarcasm that he meant with that opening statement was against the idea that the team is boring.
 
I don’t think the Canes’ success is going to cause any roster overhauls but it may make some GMs think more about stocking the right talent instead of just the most talent. The Canes also showed that not making a move at the trade deadline can be the winning play.
