2025-26 NHL Miscellaneous Thread

All kidding aside, we've had two truly miserable refereeing performances in this little mini home stand. I honestly hope the pressure for improvement is starting to build, because I know we're hardly alone in pointing this out. As bad as NHL officiating has always been, I think this season might be a tipping point in the wrong direction. Something has to give. Anything, really.

Caps will be without Pierre-Luc Dubois for an extended period after he suffered a lower body injury on Friday.

PLD had been largely invisible for them early on anyway. I assumed he was nursing something or was just due for his regularly scheduled mental check out.

So Ovechkin scored his 900th last night. St Louis goalie Jordan Binnington did the scumbaggiest thing I’ve seen in a while. While Ovechkin celebrated with his teammates, Binnington took the puck out of the net, took off his goalie gloves and shoved the puck down his goalie pants. All caught on TV cameras. The linesman came over to him and had a discussion with him then Binnington reached down his pants and retrieved the puck. He did not address it with reporters after the game, neither did his coach Jim Montgomery only saying ‘we didn’t handle the moment well enough’.

No matter what Binnington's motivation might have been, his actions in that moment are ridiculous.
Considering he didn’t address it immediately after the game hiding from reporters (not literally hiding just avoiding) tells me exactly what his intentions were and they weren’t good. If he was trying to be funny he’d have acted like it on the ice and after the game. He can’t come back 24 hours later after he’s read the fans and media skewer him and say ‘oh hey, I was just kidding y’all. Hee hee hah hah’.

Pens forward Filip Hallandar has been diagnosed with a blood clot in his leg and will miss a minimum of 3 months. He has 1 goal, 3 assists in 13 games.
