The Leafs put Cayden Primeau on waivers.
Does that just see a depth option piece now for Carolina to stash in Chicago as a safety blanket? Probably an easy decision since Primeau can be sent straight to Chicago if they claim him back on waivers. Still doesn’t solve the Bussi conundrum but at least stashing Primeau in the AHL gives you a third goalie option if Bussi gets claimed on waivers down the line…

I don't see a good reason why the Canes wouldn't just claim Primeau off of waivers and make him the #1a in Chicago (assuming that no one else claims him).

That doesn't in any way impact the immediate situation with Bussi. It gives us the #3 goalie we were expecting to have all along as extra insurance. If we do have to free up Bussi's roster spot down the road we have an experienced #3 still.

The only negatives are Primeau having to be paid ($775k salary no matter where he is assigned) and we would have to move Khazheyev back out of Chicago. There must have been some sort of plan though if Primeau had cleared waivers in the first place as to where our 4 minor league goalies would end up.

The Canes claiming Primeau off of waivers seems like a no brainer to me. Chicago's owner would certainly be happier to have a pretty good AHL goalie in the fold.

Dahlin’s fiancé got sick while they were on vacation in France over the summer. She went into heart failure and received a transplant in France. He released a statement about that before training camp started. But if he’s going back to Sweden now, several months post-surgery, that’s not a good sign.

Yeah, with Miftakhof looking more and more like a swing and a miss, I'd say the Canes may well take another shot at Primeau since they wouldn't have to muck around with waivers. But it might hinge on budget since it wouldn't be cheap to stash him in the AHL on his full NHL salary.

As for Dahlin's situation, it just sucks all the way around. I feel terrible for that young couple and their families.

Maybe Miftakhov heard the footsteps, he pitched a shutout last night. As for Primeau’s salary, I doubt that’s any concern. It was probably the plan to have him in Chicago all season anyway. He signed the exact contract that Spencer Martin had last year and the team was content leaving him in Chicago for most of the season.

Spencer Martin is back. Calm down, not with the Canes. He signed a 2 year contract with the Rangers. I guess the grass isn’t greener in Moscow, he was released by CSKA Moscow yesterday. He had been splitting time with Isles prospect Dmitri Gazmin. Martin hadn’t dressed for a game since November 3, CSKA traded for Ilya Samsonov on November 2.

The Leafs are placing forward David Kampf on weavers for purposes of contract termination. He was sent to AHL Toronto but left the team after playing 4 games for the Marlies. He was suspended without pay on November 6. The league and NHLPA are discussiing whether he has to return a portion of the $1.325 million signing bonus he received earlier this year.
