2025-26 NHL Miscellaneous Thread

Looks like the Slugs are making a goalie change, UPL is in the starter’s crease at their morning skate.
Shuffling deck chairs on the Titanic if they can’t tighten up their puck movement. They’ve been handing over possession like it’s freaking Christmas

Bill Guerin, Chris MacFarland and Pat Verbeek are the finalists for GM of the year. That’s the last award to be announced, the team with the 2nd best record in the league was shut out.

I have had serious doubts about Verbeek, but it must be said that he had a great off season last year. Bailing on Zegras took balls and most of his veteran additions have worked out pretty well. We’ll see how he handles his blueline this summer though. He’s got a chance to move past the likes of Trouba and Gudas and shouldn’t be fooled by Carlson’s playoff burst. Those guys average 34 years old and aren’t getting any younger … or better. He’s got $40 millin in Cap space and a storage room full of assets and prospects to upgrade that back end.

What about Tulsky's moves last summer? Adding K'Andre Miller and Nik Ehlers made a significant impact on the fortunes of this team and now this is a completely different playoff team now because of them.

OK, so you’d have to ask his fellow GMs because that’s the bulk of the voters for that award. But you know the media narrative about the Hurricanes also bleeds over. He’ll get his props when/if the Canes hang a banner. Probably.

Given the current state of DOPS, 6 games is a major suspension. It probably deserved 10, minimum, but it’s 2026 and for whatever reason this is all we get

Coyle’s new contract is $6 million salary every year. But the first 4 years have a full no movement clause, the 5th year has a 20 (!) team no trade clause, the last year has a 10 team NTC.

Not really shocked there.
The only shocking thing was how long it took them to drop the hammer on Berube. Not that I think he’s a bad coach, but he was a terrible fit for that roster from day one and it was patently obvious that he would be fired eventually. All it required was somebody over at MLSE gathering the balls to make a phone call and order up a press release.

OK, so … you mean CHARLIE Coyle, right? The one who turned 34 a couple of months ago? Who will be 40 when that contract is done and 38 before Columbus clears the no movement clause? The guy who had broken 50 points three times in his career, the previous two of which were followed up by a decline of over 20 points? That Coyle?

Jeeps, Waddell. You didn’t learn as much during your stint with the Hurricanes as I thought.

Yeah, I’m trying to get out of town in June and I have zero idea when I'll won’t be taking a risk.
I have a bride to walk down the aisle on June 6. She grew up at the arena, played on the Jr. Hurricanes girls team and still scheduled her wedding for the first weekend in June. She’s getting married in Spokane, so they had a small window between the start of nice weather and the beginning of fire season.

Her older sister was married last Memorial Day weekend In Wilmington, NC. Fortunately, that was an away weekend but it was close enough that we could have run home for a game. Obviously not an option from Spokane. But the week after the wedding is up in the air depending on the Canes schedule. We’re either flying home on Sunday or taking a few tourist days, we’ve never been to Eastern Washington.

So, last night got interesting …

Buffalo came out white hot, blew a lead with more of their now signature terrible puck management and a bit of bad goaltending, re-found their footing after a fluke goal on a terrible bounce and then won it in the 3rd with an actual legit power play goal. Wild swings in this one. I guess UPL has reclaimed his crease, but that goal he gave up to Caulfield was … oof. Still, 2-2 in the series is good news for Canes fans interested in not facing somebody in the Eastern Final coming in all hot and full of swagger.

Out West, Vegas veteran-ed their way to a an OT win to take a 3-2 series lead over the Ducks. Neither of these two can take control of a game either, but Vegas has had enough been there, done that to keep their noses in front.

How much will it take for Vegas to re-sign Dorofeyev? He’s a RFa with arbitration rights, finishing up a 2 year deal at $1.835 million and 72 goals over the course of that contract.
