2025-26 NHL Miscellaneous Thread

Panthers trade Mackie Samoskevich to Seattle for the 25th overall pick this year and a conditional 2nd next year, the higher of the Jackets or Jets pick.
Umm. Weird. Moving into the first round hasn’t been Florida’s MO at all under Zito and they appear to be bailing on one of their VERY few decent young prospects for a low first rounder and a conditional 2nd. Samoskevic has managed two 30-something point seasons in VERY limited usage and should be ready for a bigger role next season. I know he’s an RFA but he couldn’t have been that expensive to re-sign.

Seattle on the other had, probably over-paid a bit depending on what the conditions on where that 2nd rounder eventually sits. Still, they REALLY need young, aggressive guys who can motor and Samoscevitch is definitely that.

Overpaying by just a bit is something that I'll always accept as a fan of a team. Sometimes, it ends up being a bit of an underpayment. I know this is recency bias, but look at how K'Andre Miller is turning out for us. I'd like to go back to the time of the trade and reread Rangers' fans comments on the trade.

Panthers could also be accumulating picks to make a run at Larkin.

Also, Edmonton extended center Jason Dickson, 5 years $4 million AAV. There will be a market for KK should Tulsky want to move him.

You don’t have to go back, Rangers fans are still pretty loudly claiming that Miller sucks in comments sections all over the internet. Remember that next time somebody tells you that Adam Fox sucks. He does not.

As for Samoscevitch … he’s no Miller, but he is a cost controlled center who can motor and Seattle badly needs such a thing. More so because they’re spending a total of $13.5 million AAV on Chandler Stephenson and Matty Beniers, neither of whom move the needle offensively. So, yeah. Getting a cheap young center seems like a good risk, even if it is kind of an overpay.

Maybe. I still don’t see anything that Florida would move off the NHL roster that would be interesting to Detroit … and there’s no way they trade their No. 1 center for just picks and prospects. Especially considering that Florida has no prospects to speak of now they they moved Samoscevitch … who’s a little old to be a proper prospect himself.

Three first rounders??? When was the last time anyone got traded for three first rounders? I know they’re low picks but still. Wow! And for that dirtball? Broad Street Bullies, meet the Sunrise Sleazbags.

Panthers don’t have a first rounder until 2031 now. They traded the 2027 pick for Seth Jones and the 2028 pick for Brad Marchand.

That said, Florida making that move all but forces Carolina’s hand on adding some size up top. I think the D is OK, just barely … but if Florida’s back in the playoff picture, you’re going to have to be able to mix it up with them.

Panthers have just over $7 million of cap space and no goalie. Bob supposedly wants $42 million for 6 years, Tarasov is also a UFA. They just re-signed Cooper Black to a 2 year deal and have 2 others goalies on their 50 man roster. They also only have 6 dmen under contract.

Ottawa should just turn in their man card now, no roster players back in a trade for one of your top players and captain smells like a rotten fish…if I’m a season ticket holder of that org you have to see solid roster players coming back in a trade of that size and scope. Lundell, Verhaege, someone like that and a couple firsts makes it at least digestible.
