2025 Draft

HuGo have actually made numerous deals, not just been active on the phones, trying to make deals. It’s not complicated, bro.
Bergy never wanted to pay. That was his issue.
MB also made a lot of deals, but I also think he was afraid of overpaying. He should have been a lot more aggressive with his picks and prospects, especially given his own negligence of player development.

HuGo seem not afraid of "overpaying."
I don't know yet, he does seem to try to squeeze out every bit of value out of a deal, see the insane conditions on the Monahan deal for example, and there is other examples. We'll see if/when he'll be willing to sacrifice a major asset.

To me...everything is working out BECAUSE Bergy made that trade for Suzuki (even if Nick wasn't his first option, he still pulled off the trade, so he gets full credit for Suzuki).

HuGo are stuck with Anderson-Gally-Price contracts, which are Bergy mistakes....

But without Bergy, we still don't have a 1C....and 4 years into their regime, HuGo have proven they cannot find us a 1-2C

Let's hope this summer they succeed
MB was actually really good at trades.. Everything else was bad though

Sacrificed 10th overall (or whatever) for Dach. But he has been focused on selling for the most part.

Let's see what happens with the buying part now.

Too bad you can’t build a successful team just being good at one thing. So far HuGo seem better at drafting and development than at trading . . .
They are switching modes from asset building to filling needs this summer so we'll see how they modify their thinking on trades.

Technically he gave up Romanov+98th (which became 13th) and 66th for Dach.

Romanov and those picks were spare parts at the time. Even that 13th was in a weak draft, I don't think he makes that deal just for that pick.

I miss Romanov. Truculence that can actually play on the 2nd pairing

Bergevin was paralyzed because he had an incoherent strategy of trying to push a veteran club over the top without sacrificing the future. He didn’t fish or cut bait. Eventually you have to pay for talent. (TT’s comical drafting record didn’t help.)

HuGo has a very different context.

Also, I think the other reason players didn’t sign here is because the team stunk. (See TTs drafts.) Good players want to play with other good players in all industries - cluster effect. So I would say that Demidov and an improving roster is a bigly incentive for potential 2Cs.
