2025 NHL UFA/Trade Thread

Weird feature that in 80% of the markets you’re part of the 4th most popular sport
Which is how most Canadian born players prefer it. They don't seek the limelight and hockey culture doesn't encourage them to try. PK Subban tried. It didn't win him any friends inside or outside the Hans dressing room.

HuGo singled out size and compete during the presser (no surprise)
Compete is the most important factor , Laine is big but the motor of a bag of chips

Caps are one of the few heavy teams that can push you around

Hopefully the Go half of HuGo has realized what he did wrong in NY. We need some more a-holes on this team. NHL hockey is not really a sport for “nice” people on the ice.

I would have thought it’s the opposite if teams are less likely to be pinned to the cap ceiling.
Agreed , everyone has a ton of cap in 2 years even with moves now

OS are hard to do unless a team is absolutely strapped like Edmonton was last year

However I can see those mid level moves increase .....2-4 mil offers where the compensation is manageable and you might get the next Holloway overshoot his contract .

Cant be stupid like Nero giving Aho a below market deal

the salient part was his hunch that teams would feel emboldened to copy St Louis...and Gorton was just spitballing. Answering the question without revealing anything (which is what these guys do for their 40 min pressers...unlike Bergy who got a tad emotional and revealing)

Gorts also used the word “trend” to describe it - NHL GMs have always been known to be a monkey see monkey do culture

Marty neutered Xhekaj. Won't let him play his game.
Not accurate and Arber said so himself - MSL works individually with him to better understand how not to go out of your way to make a hit and put yourself in a bad position that hurts the team….hockey IQ.

BTW - young Shea Weber was very guilty of it first couple of years in Nashville
