2026-27 Canes Miscellaneous Thread

Also, I see Staal's absence as a plus even if his injury itself ends up being a negative. It's a great chance for these guys to start proving to their coach that they can survive, or even thrive, without their Captain. I think they can. They have several options for filling the role and the ice time and a solid enough leadership structure to carry on. Get on it, fellas. In the long run this will be good for you.

Did the puck cause that injury when he blocked that shot in the Vancouver game?
I thought it went off his skate on that play but apparently not after seeing that news…now seeing online that perhaps a freak injury during the pregame skate in warmups in Philly might have been the cause of the calf injury.

OK ... anybody else torn a calf muscle? Because I did last September and it's still a little screwed up
I did so 13 years ago about 10 miles into the Run Raleigh Half Marathon. I finished the race, and while it healed on its own within about two months and it never impacted me again, I haven't run a half marathon since then!

Hall might be gone longer than Staal. Chance for Felix and Bradley to make the decision hard when it comes time to send them back.
Yeah, no news past "looks bad" generally means structural damage in Brindy-speak. I'm guessing that Hall might be out for a pretty long stretch, so even with Jarvis on track to return pretty soon ... they were hedging on the road trip, but I understand he's traveling ... there's a Top 6 slot for somebody. The entire first line in Chicago has been getting caved in pretty badly to start the AHL season, so somebody really needs to step it up here in general. Let's go fellas. Give your coach a reason to play somebody other than reliable tomato cans.

Calling up both Nadeau and Unger-Sorum means that as much as the we love having Deslauriers on the roster and in the locker room, we don't love Deslauriers actually playing very much. That is a position I fully endorse.

Carrier-Aho-Svech
Nadeau-Stankhoven-Blake
Martinook-Jankowski-Ehlers
Robinson-KK-Unger-Sorum

(One possibility)

One big concern with Hall out of the lineup is that 2nd line loses a whole lot of jam. I wouldn't want Eric Robinson on line 2, but I could see Rod swapping Nadeau and Robinson with the idea that having Nadeau and Unger-Sorum on the same like takes advantage of their familiarity with each other. Martinook also might see time in that spot.

This is how they’re practicing this morning. Nadeau moved into Hall’s spot, FUS is on the 4th line. And if Jarvis is skating with the extras, he’s not making his debut tomorrow.

Carrier - Aho - Svechnikov
Nadeau - Stankoven - Blake
Ehlers - Jankowski - Martinook
Robinson - Kotkaniemi - Unger Sorum
Jarvis - Deslauriers

Slavin - Chatfield
Miller - Walker
Gostisbehere - Reilly
Valimaki

If KK can get his game in gear, he could move the needle against 4th line opposition with those linemates. REALLY big "if" for a guy who still only looks like he gives a crap maybe half the time, but still. A little hot streak from him could loosen up the trade market, which would be good for everyone I think.
