At the rate they are dishing out these contracts across the league, soon, there won't be any 2C that fit into the Habs salary hierarchy....Guerin fucked everything up with Kaprizov....Chicago unexplicably gave 12.5M to Byram....they had all the comparables to stay under 10M, but they gave him 12.5M....

And Verbeek playing hardball with his young studs, instead of signing them longterm (old school 80’s mentality)

Hughes is gonna have to massively overpay now to get a 2C already signed to a long term contract with another team

Or offer sheet a young 2C at 15-16M


Whatever the price was to acquire guys like Knies/Thomas was 2 days ago, just skyrocketed after Leo crazy offer sheet

Yes re: Reinbacher. Still a potentially a major add.

Less fixated on Zharovsky. Unless Hage turns out to be a real C (unclear, apparently) - then he can be a winger with Demidov and Hage.

If Hage isn’t a C, then we’ll need to make a trade. Zharovsky might be a trade chip.
 
This was supposed to be the quiet time of the year….the dog days of NHL off season….let’s see the chain reaction this sets off

Trades happen all summer now. The Habs acquired Matheson at the end of July a few years ago, for instance.

I mentioned him as an interesting buy low candidate— obviously the Habs scouting staff did a ton of work on him previously
