his inability to shoot really stands out. not the only limitation, but perhaps the main one.

That's the most glaring. But I see it in his puck hounding abilities and twisting and turning away from checks. He's also slower and less explosive.

Every time I convince myself it's a wrist thing, I see him just not looking as strong or mobile and wonder if it's a leg thing, or, worst case, both.

It's nuts how good he is with one wrist. He's just not the 60+ goal version of this. Played the entire season clearly damaged and put up paces of 40/95 while being an elite defensive centre. Jack Eichel just had his career season and it wasn't quite as good as damaged Auston's worst since the 'rona.

His average wrist shot velocity is down 10mph this year. It could be more than one thing, most guys play through something or other, but very clearly the wrist isn't right.

could be his back too.

I've been lucky to have avoided any kind of back injury all my life, until last Friday. and holy hell if it doesn't affect basically fucking everything.
