All-time Habs team

We won Cups with the players we acquired for Langway (who forced a trade because he wanted to play in the US) and Chelios.

Chelios won zero Cups in Chicago and Langway and the Caps never got past the second round.

Your argument is tangential at best

State your team if you think differently

My team (off the top of my head)

Lemieux - Turgeon - LeClair
Langway — Chelios
Roy
Savard had a Bergevin-like offseason in 1990 and traded Chelios, C. Lemieux, Ludwig, B. Smith for scraps which started to get him a reputation as a terrible GM, though he made up for it with the trades he made for the '93 Cup.

Harvey was one the first defensemen to rush the puck and control the play with his skating and passing. He led the league in scoring for D many years.

I was mostly comparing him to Orr for his ability to rush the puck and control the game with his skating, not for his offensive output. But Harvey had offense and defense, just not Orr's level of offense, you don't win 7 Norris by just playing defense.
Yes. I never watched him in his prime, though I do remember him at the end. From everything I have seen and read, his incredible vision and ability to control tempo were quite memorable. He probably could have scored even more, but chose to and could create so many other options. I remember him in his mid fourties as well, brought up by Bowman from the minors during that first expansion season where he was coaching. He still was a factor in controlling the tempo of games and in their run to the finals. And he wasn't exactly in shape.

Worst trades team?

Morenz-Turgeon-Leclair
Chelios-Sergachev
Roy

Alternate team

Richer-Damphousse-Teeder Kennedy
Langway-McDonagh

Plante

I could probably build a third too

But you also have names like Teeder Kennedy and Red Berenson.

Team 3

Dr. Recchi-B. Smith-Berenson

Desjardins-Lumme

Bunny Larocque

We need some topics to kill another seven weeks.
Ok then…. I get Chelios vibes from Struble.

Big, probably the most mobile of Habs Dman after Matheson. I expect to see the physical viciousness game this season and if he can be more confident using his shot and take advantage of his high end skating …

Struble’s background of being racially targeted form a young age in youth hockey is the type of chip on the shoulder seed that cultivates overachievers…

Ribeiro has to be one of the worst trades hockeywise, but overall he's more addition by subtraction. Also Darcy Tucker, but he was just unlikable.

Richer? We got Muller for him.
Damphousse was about to become UFA. We got a 1st, 2nd and 5th for him. The trade wasn't terrible but the picks were.

The throw-ins are what I don't like

Desjardins
Mike Keane
Craig Conroy
Darcy Tucker
Chris Higgins

All went with bigger names as unnecessary throwins
Leclair was the throw-in. Desjardins was the core piece from our side at the time.

What about best team of best trades?

Damphousse-Smith-Mahovlich
Cleghom-Petry/Souray
Dryden

(We haven't struck gold often when trading for defensemen, maybe I'm missing some)
