Around the League 2019-2025 Edition

canes really have no star power at all. just a boring ass robot team.

who knows if we beat the panther or who wins this metro series but if we do get through a matchup against the caps would be way more fun than a matchup against the canes.

this feed has fucked up audio - you can barely hear the talking heads, the crowd is overwhelming.

this is the right mix.

I'd rather face Freddy and the Corsi Brigade than Logan and the PP merchants

Rantanen now has 116 points in 89 playoff games...which is insane

Dallas is spooky. The only team that really scares me. Anyone can lose to anyone in a 7 game series, and a Leaf fan has no right being cocky against anyone, but Dallas is the only team in this thing that I don't think it matters how well the Leafs play. If Dallas is healthy and plays well we would need Auston to be the recipient of a medical miracle, or a fuckton of luck.

Who knows? Marchand was saying how tougher the Leafs are to play against under Berube, particular the D which is taking away the slot and blocking a lot of scoring chances

as good as Dallas looks on paper i still think the west overall gets boosted by how terrible the pacific is.

they have two great dmen but they're still trotting out half a very shitty dcore, and imo oettinger is pretty mediocre.

and even their vaunted forward depth counts a whole lot on old guys like Duchene Seguin Benn who i'm not convinced are as good as people think anymore.

rantanen being a stud for them tho is a big step up because they had a serious lack of true star power up front.

Two great dmen basically means that you have one on the ice for 80% of 5v5 shifts and both of them are gamebreaker type talents. Lindell is a pretty decent shutty to go with them...but yeah after that it's pretty grim and is definitely a weakness. Boosh, Ceci, and Petrovic is pretty sad.

Up front though, I think you might be underrating the veteran group they've got. Duchene has been more or less the same quality as Tavares over the last bunch of years. Seguin was PPG after coming back from the hip surgery and even if he's not that and is more of what he's been the last few years he's still as productive as Knies. I don't see how we can stack forwards up against them and come away thinking anything other than it being a pretty solid Dallas edge unless Auston receives a medical miracle between now and a theoretical matchup. I'd take our top 4 over their top 4, even with Auston clearly being hurt. But not by a whole ton, and that depth after....

Hintz, Benn, Marchment, Seguin, Granlund v Knies, Domi, Max, Laughton, McMann? FML that's murder.

Goaltending probably comes down to whether it's Oettinger v Woll or Stolarz. Stolarz in one piece and we have an advantage, maybe a heavy one. If not, that's a wash at best.

They're spooky.

really comes down to those old depth guys for them tbh.

Up top, even an injured Matthews is a big edge over Hintz.

But then yeah Robertson/Rantanen/Duchene matches up pretty well with Marner/Nylander/Tavares. Then you get an interesting young matchup of Knies vs Johnston after that.

The stars have the depth edge beyond that but even then I'm not just conceding that Domi/Pacioretty/McMann are completely outclassed by Granlund/Benn/Marchment. Though Dallas still has Seguin after that and i don't really have any idea how he's been since coming back from what looked like a career ender. Offensively we could squeeze robertson into that depth matchup to make the numbers look a little better i guess.
