Around the League 2019-2026 Edition

No I won’t ask you and you can’t make me.

McKenna is worth more than not winning a cup. Regardless of shots. Shoot 60 and lose, who cares?

I wonder what happens with Patrick Laine. He’s eligible for one of those incentive laden contracts because of time missed. Does he still have game left? He’s so talented but such an enigma. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him get picked up somewhere and figure his game out. Imagine prime Laine on the PP with that clapper? Also could see him completely washing out of the league.

Patrick Kane would be cool. I doubt we see him here. Maybe he goes to Buffalo (home?)now that they made the playoffs.

Nah, they should be aiming younger. They should be looking to add to this core with a player who shares a similar window. They're not as close as their playoff run made them appear. Blowing their brains out for RobThom is a better play than spending on a 30-31 yr old for them imo.
Thomas for sure. But I'd settle for Larkin but obviously at the right price

Yup. As far as I'm concerned, we finished 2nd overall this year.

Ehhh...when you're a young team just hitting the playoffs, there's a lot of value in knowing that you can actually hang with top teams. Shots are just a shorthand for that. Had the Habs had shit nerdies all year and then all of a sudden something clicked in the playoffs and they were out nerdying teams as they beat them and then played the Canes even but still lost for whatever reason, it would suggest that maybe they're already really good. So who cares? I guess it depends on how important you view this experience as a measuring stick for where they are in their development or whether you're just happy with them being bad but making friends along the way.

None of it matters if you end up losing anyway.

A lot of data was provided by the run and the experience and reps were invaluable to a young team.

2C is a major issue for us. Players will slot in better once we acquire one.

Need a power winger and 2C for second line.

Need #4 D which will likely come from within.

Need third pairing crease clearer.

The most glaring issue (aside from sog) was the lack of defensive help from the wingers. The opposing D ate us alive as our wingers failed to cover them time and time again.

Yeah, you need those things. But there is a difference between need, and need.

If it takes you 12-18 months to get a good #2C that lines up well age wise with your group, that's fine. You can live with placeholders right now as long as they're not dogshit.

If you were expecting to be legitimately good enough to compete for a title next season, then yeah, you actually need one regardless of other factors (age, cost, etc). But you're not, so you don't.
