Around the League 2019-2026 Edition

We should be all over that.

I don't want to re litigate yesterday's argument, but he's basically the same thing as Horvat. If we can get that for the traditional value of "that guy" (~1st + B prospect + additional pick in the 3rd-5th range), yeah I'm down. If the cost is treating him as a good #1 centre (which he isn't on a good team, he's another guy with inflated counting stats by being an all purpose 1C on a non playoff team for his entire career), then I'd pass.

Full no trade clause. And then there is the question of him wanting to move from a team that didn’t make the playoffs to a team that didn’t make the playoffs and won the lottery

I agree with the assessment that he’d fit right fucking in as a #2 center for us. Like LOF mentioned, he will come at a #1 price.. but we should kick those fucking tires

he'd be a good add, but it's hard to imagine the Wings dealing Larkin to a division rival

If the Wings are going full rebuild, perhaps they wouldn’t care.

The other knock-on effect of this is that if Larkin is demanding a trade, you’d think that decreases the likelihood Patrick Kane re-signs in Detroit once again. Would still love to see us grab him on a one-year deal.

I don't know how useful a label like #1C is. Not all 1Cs cost the same. There are wildly different levels of 1C.

the likes of Horvat and Larkin are comfortably #1Cs, but not top-20 type Cs and far away from top-10 type Cs.

Not the kind of players you want as #1C on a contender, but ideal as #2Cs on a contender.

The price would be the price of a #20-30 C, not an elite C.

The difference between Larkin and Horvat is that Detroit has to trade Larkin and the Islanders likely don't want to trade Horvat and won't, unless...

So obviously if they're both traded, one guy is gonna cost way more than the other. Not an apples to apples comparison here. Habs would hit 15+ shots per game next series vs Carolina if they grab Larkin. They should do it. If Larkin wants to play there, they've got all the leverage.

Nah, they should be aiming younger. They should be looking to add to this core with a player who shares a similar window. They're not as close as their playoff run made them appear. Blowing their brains out for RobThom is a better play than spending on a 30-31 yr old for them imo.
They need a 2LC in the worst way and Larkin is a damn good one. Im not sure they can quabble about age so much
