Around the League 2019-2026 Edition

Devils nerd trades a shit goalie with a bloated contract, signs his realgud C to a fair contract, and tries to acquire a solid 3c for under market value.

Leafs nerd signs a shit goalie for a bloated contract and stacks the roster with absolute plugs.

Absolutely demoralizing. We got duped.
This sucks for me too. I can't even take receipts and rub it in your faces when it doesn't work out. It's way more fun when you guys get all excited about the signings and it blows up. Lose/lose.

I wouldn't be the least surprised if he doesn't have some major injury in training camp.

The only silver lining of the Bob signing, I thought, was the end of Stolarz, but then they fucking traded Hildeby.
They had to trade one of them because of Hildeby having to clear waivers. This one might work out.

I know he had to clear waivers, but they didn't have to trade him.

Stolarz was the guy to get rid of, with that four year term just starting now.

I'll give Chaykes one thing, he sure knows how to blindside. And some of these moves feel more like him putting his stamp on the team than trying to make us better. TSN had Bob as the #1 UFA - like, how the fuck is that possible for an old goalie coming off a bad year? Chaykes seemingly just wanted to land the big fish and make waves and have his own goalie in there. I question that he actually will keep Stolarz still, but now I have no clue whatsoever what to expect, so maybe he really intends to keep him all year or maybe he's working on a trade as we speak and plans to have Arty be Bob's direct understudy. Anything can happen with the way things went today.

My best guess is that one was easier to trade, seeing that Stolarz could veto trades to half the league, effective today.

you definitely underrate Stolarz ... he is hurt very often yes, but when he plays he's a good goalie. It could be a very good tandem in theory if Bobrovsky has anything left in the tank, i would just rather not risk $21 million over three years to find out

Big balls gamble by Chayka hoping he's found his Ed Belfour

Leafs made the right choice in keeping Stolarz. Extra tall goalies take a lot longer to develop historically. Stolarz is already there. Hildeby might one day be Stolarz (with better health hopefully for him).

The problem with the whole situation is trading him along with two picks for a clone of two guys they already signed earlier in the day.

Just get a pick for Hildeby and move on. Less is more.

I mean, analytically speaking even in his down season Sargent Bob still had better stats than Woll/Stolarz and more shutouts than all Leafs goalies.
