In terms of lotto odds, love matching up to nhl draft to make it more fun to watch it.

What about in terms of matching up dynasty finish to nhl finish

Last place: 30, 22
Second last: 29, 21
Third last: 28, 20
Fourth last: 27, 19
Fifth last: 26, 18
Sixth last: 25, 17
Seventh last: 24, 16
Eighth last: 23

Axl? Can we pls make a decision on odds? Draft is a few months away now...been asking for months now for a decision...

And also, nhl draft is changing next year...are we following along?

I have discussed the draft-lotto issue with several teams, but it seems like nobody is willing to make any actual suggestions. It's very hard to determine exactly what the best option would be, but we really do need to decide asap.

Option 1: Align our 8-team lottery draft with the NHL's bottom 8 teams. If there is any movement in the NHL, the same thing happens here. If a team other than one of the bottom 8 wins the lotto, there would be no change in our league.

Option 2: We select random lotto odds ourselves and no longer align with the NHL Draft. Example:

1= 35%
2= 20%
3= 15%
4= 10%
5= 8%
6= 6%
7= 4%
8= 2%

Anyone? Bueller?

Sorry man, in Mexico and hadn't put a lot of thought to it....

After this season, when the lottery expands again, I'd really suggest we part ways with trying to emulate them, and just stick with this season's 8 team lottery as our final format. There's no free agency or cap or any other real mechanism to spread the wealth around, so too much watering down of the value of the draft for a lower end team would be bad for the league in the long run imo. I agree with expanding it to 8 teams as an anti un fair tanking mechanism, but that's as far as we should take it imo.

I'd like to include the part where it is not just for the first overall, but a chance for all 8 teams to move up at every draft slot. So a team that finishes 6th could get 2nd for instance - not just boom or bust for first.

Yeah, I've been leaning towards parting ways with the NHL lottery. But from what I understand, they will still be using a 14-team lottery this year (for 1st overall). Then in 2016 it will be a 14-team lottery for picks 1, 2 and 3.

What do you guys think we should do this year for our 8-team lottery?

Yeah, just use an online generator...was neat that teams here got to align with NHL clubs in the past, but I wouldn't bother ****ing about with that any longer. Just plug our odds into an online generator and be done with it.

Online generator is what I was leaning towards, so that is what will probably end up happening ... still looking for suggestions as to the % of ping pong balls, though. Should the worst team have a 35-ish% chance as listed above, or more like 50%? Worth discussion to try to find the best solution for the league as a whole.

That's a good point. We should also discuss that option as Blueman suggested. Do we use a lotto for the 1st overall pick, or the top 3, or all 8 picks?

No suggestions? I put one in this thread? Axl, read like a few spots up from your post today.

Personally, find it fun to align it to the nhl actual lottery draw instead of a person running a generator that could lead to trust issues cause no one but the one running it would have line of sight. You can see the convo currently going on about just this on the main board as we speak...but overall It's fun tuning in to the nhl lotto and watching it for this league.

And I like following along with drawing first three teams similar to nhl starting in 2016.

I'd go top 3 at most man. For a team to really be that (tank fairly) and end up worst in the league, and to even have the possibility of getting the 8th pick overall (subsequently turning their 2nd rounder into the 28th from the 21st as well) would be a hard pill to swallow man, and I imagine we'd be replacing owners far more often than we would like. Building from the ground up in this league is a tough process and though I want to see teams compete fairly regardless of their relative quality, there has to be some sanity when it comes to how they're treated and the path they're expected to take in climbing up the ladder. Especially Jonas & GH who split an existing team and didn't have access to our initial draft to build from. We kind of owe it to them for our draft lottery process to not punish them for being shit.
