Draft of Draft Rules

Agreed.

I don't mind lotto teams potentially being able to move into any of the first three slots.....but I'm very much against the worst place team potentially only getting the 8th overall pick, or picking anywhere from 5th-8th, for that matter.

(subsequently turning their 2nd rounder into the 28th from the 21st as well)

Lotto should only be applying to the first round....every other round is meant to be reverse order of the standings.

Yeah, I'm cool with a bit of movement at the top and maybe an against the odds winner moving from 7th to 1st or something, but there needs to be a certain amount of guarantee that legitimately shitty teams are going to be able to make an impact at the draft. Finishing last and drafting 6th would be a ****ing disaster for a club and a person paying money to compete in this league.

Yeah, forgot about that.

Yeah, more I think about it the less I even like the idea of the last place team, only getting the 4th overall pick.

Give everyone in the lottery a shot at #1, weigh it fairly, and then only allow teams to potentially fall one slot......think that's probably what I would be most in favour of.

So basically do the lottery for the top pick then everyone else falls into place according to reverse standings behind that 1st pick?

Would it really be that bad? Are the bottom teams really trying to ice competitive rosters? I like this because it diminishes the value in tanking, see Sabres, Buffalo.

Okay, so there is an option to continue to align with the NHL Draft, either as Soco suggested or just for the bottom 8. While this option would likely be fine as well, I think we're probably better off calibrating the right odds % and just using a lottery pick generator. There's certainly no reason why a last place team should draft 8th, so it wouldn't make sense to randomly generate all 8 spots. Seems like people are split on either having a lottery for 1st overall pick, or for the top 3 picks.

How about having a lottery for the top 2 picks? It adds a little randomness to offset potential tanking. Gives 8 teams (probably all of which could use the help) a shot at the Top 2, nobody can fall further than 2 spots. Picks go in order of reverse standings from the 3rd pick through all rounds.

Sounds good to me. Tanking will still be an issue, but in such a large dynasty league I'd imagine there's no way of stopping that.

We go from having only 5 teams to be able to get the top pick, to 8 teams, to now giving 8 teams a shot at 1 or 2....this is complete bullshit for teams that had a sound strategy to ensure Jack Eichel at minimum

This cannot be the plan for this year. Changing the lotto mid stream when quite a few trades have been made with an eye on this draft is incredibly unfair and not the way things are supposed to be done. We should be NHL aligned this year and implement whatever is decided on next year.

Pretty sure this is 2016 discussion for multi teams...what the odds are for 2015 still are in discussion on how it will work for the 8 teams in the lotto.

I'm not sure why there needs to be a discussion for this year. Top 8 in the lotto aligned with their respective NHL teams. If by some fluke the 9th or better team wins, the draft order remains the same.

There has been a lot of confusion regarding how the draft will work this year, and going forward, because the NHL is changing the way their draft is handled starting in 2015. This question has been asked multiple times, with only Soco offering up any suggestion in the past. But Jonas does make a reasonable point. Going into this year, teams did know there would be a lottery for the 1st overall pick, so we can either stay aligned with the NHL Draft for this year, or we can switch to our 8-team lottery generator but only use it for the first overall pick this year. Then use it for the top 2 picks going forward starting in 2016.

Well that option is part of the discussion... but it's not the only option. That way really increases the last place team's odds... thus encouraging tanking even more, which is what we're looking to avoid.

I say we go with the NHL route as is

if a team in the top 8 wins the lotto, that corresponding Fantrax team wins the lotto.

If 9-14 wins, then the draft order stays status quo.

And in 2016, i'll still be a bottom feeder, but very open and reasonable to change.
