GDT: Canes @ Blackhawks 4/9 8:30

Winning this one tonight would go a long way to being in the drivers seat to win the Eastern Conference! Buffalo would be the closest with only two to play…the ROW total for the Canes has them in a good spot too for any tiebreaker scenario.

Great win against a clearly inferior opponent. Loved the newbies and the regulars. Freddie was great. And how about a shout out for Janky? I thought his game was terrific.

Stanky’s goal gives the Canes 6 - 20 goal scorers, tied for the league lead. Staal is 1 goal away.

Remember in 2003-04 when Joe Vaiscek lead the team with 19 goals? A long, long time ago.
If Staal and Hall were able to both hit 20 that would be 8 in the 20 goal club, for the historians out there, safe to say that’s never happened with this franchise?

Whalers had 8 twenty goal scorers in 86-87:

Kevin Dineen - 40
John Anderson - 31
Ron Francis - 30
Ray Ferraro - 27
Sylvain Turgeon - 23
Dean Evason - 22
Paul Lawless - 22
Stew Gavin - 20

That is the (current) highest number of 20 goal scorers in franchise history.

Strangely enough, you would think that with eight 20 goal scorers in 86-87 that would also be a strong candidate for 'most goals in a season in franchise history', but it's actually 6th:

85-86 Whalers 332
79-80 Whalers 303
88-89 Whalers 299
80-81 Whalers 292
83-84 Whalers 288
86-87 Whalers 287
05-06 Canes 286

This 25-26 Canes team is poised to break the Canes record for most goals in a season and maybe get into the top 5 in franchise history. Right now we have 283 goals. As much as we think of the Avs as the high flying super scoring team in the NHL this year, they have only scored 7 more goals than the Canes have.
