GDT - Leafs @ Devils | Beginning of the end 7:30PM EST SNET

Mod Squad
With the all-star game out of the way, the NHL season is on to the last stretch run, some teams like the Pens and Bolts are bolstering their lineup and tweaking their team for the REAL season; others like the Flames are fighting for a playoff spot.

For us? Unfortunately we're talking about off-season moves and next season already. It's sad and frustrating yet another season's gone down the drain ... but the moves Shanny makes before the trade deadline will go a long way towards defining next year's team.

So what does tonight's game matter? Well, I'd presume Shanny's made up his mind on some players already, and he has yet to decide on others ... these games will serve as a basis to decide their fate in the Leafs' long term picture.

We got a pretty easy schedule coming up, and the Devils are a very beatable team ... we'll see how the players do.

This should be interesting. Will this be the start of another fruitless late season run?

Or will the mid-season vacation of the all-star break fail to stop this team's swan dive down the standings?

As for the Devils, they are five points back of us, but they haven't been doing bad lately. 5-4-1 in their last 10, and 2-1 in their last 3 (with wins over LA & San Jose).

Also will be interesting to see how the team performs without Dion. And if Bernie can recapture his form. Would be nice for Phil to heat up again too.

Man has David Booth fallen right off; I know he has only been a 4th liner but really thought he would have had more of an impact

It's such a shame. Dude was looking like a break-out power-forward until Mike Richards took his head off.

Ironic that Richards' NHL career may have ended before Booth's, without him even having an injury.

On my FB feed today, a friend of mine was upset that the Leafs didn't make a waiver claim on Richards. Beyond not understanding how the salary cap works, this person then had the audacity to suggest that we just missed our chance at acquiring a #1 centre. Things like this depress me.

Casual hockey fans with strong, uninformed opinions make baby Jesus cry.

The Leafs system is starting to look like the old Devil's system. With that in mind, this whole game maybe be played at center ice.

I'm torn. I hate cheering against this team. Usually when i start to cheer against us, we win games.

... so go Devils go?

I hate this situation but I don't want to compete for 9-th or 10-th place either

Losing all 3 games to Jersey this upcoming week and half will ensure i do not watch any Leaf games the rest of the year. I can't stand watching losing hockey.
