lol this team.
Our pick is going to be nice this summer.
the pp will start clicking again.
still too many long shifts and a few bad breakdowns tonight.
but, they're doing a much better job of controlling the gaps. they're forcing a lot more dump ins into their end, which has really helped cut down on the amount of time the opposition has spent cycling the puck, and they're staying much closer together on the breakout.
the pp has been cold. it'll snap out of it in a few games and they'll open the flood gates a bit. kessel's a 30+ goal guy. he won't be held off the score sheet for much longer.
I was hoping for McDavid
Well, the difference is now any team missing the playoffs actually has a chance of winning the 1st overall pick period. Under the old rules, if you won the lottery, the most you could do was move up four spots in the draft. I remember under those rules, the team picking 8th (Godfather Lou's Devils, of course) won the lottery one year and moved up to 4th overall.Thing is that even if they just miss the playoffs, they have a much better chance than in past years of landing the top pick.

Still, as nice as it'll be to at least have a shot at 1st overall, the odds for the teams that finish just out of the playoffs (which is where these Leafs are probably headed) are pretty miniscule:

At the conclusion of the regular season, the 14 NHL teams not qualifying for the playoffs are entered in a weighted lottery to determine the initial draft picks in the first round, seeded according to regular season standing. The 30th-place team has the best chance of winning the lottery (25%) while the 29th-place team has an 18.8% chance of winning, with odds diminishing to a 0.5% chance for the 17th-place team. A single selection from the lottery pool is made, with the winning team improving its draft position to the number 1 spot, and no team dropping more than one place.
at least we have win less streak this time of the year but not closer to spring so we dont have to have high hopes for a playoffsReally pathetic that once again were talking draft position in January; really miss playoff hockey

It looks like the Wikipedia entry is out of date---the NHL changed the draft lottery odds again this summer.
Here's a link straight from the source: NHL announces changes to Draft Lottery format.
And I actually learned something I didn't know before from that link: the NHL will be changing the draft lottery again in 2016. After 2016, they'll draw for the first three selections in the draft, not just the 1st overall pick. Which means that the Edmonton Oilers will no longer be guaranteed at least the 2nd overall pick every year---going forward, they could fall as low as 4th in the draft.
It is pretty sad. I mean, I'm not willing to write this team off completely---I still think this is a team with enough talent that they should be comfortably in the playoff picture.Really pathetic that once again were talking draft position in January; really miss playoff hockey
