Golf Thread

Re: 2015 Season Golf Thread

I edited the thread title to make this the season's golf thread.

I play regularly up at Osprey Valley. It's an awesome facility with three championship calibre courses -- one links, on parkland and one wasteland course. I usually do 2-3 rounds per week up there. It's just south of Orangeville. If anyone wants to pick up a round, just let me know.

It's a public course that doesn't have membership. One of the greatest things about it is that it's never crowded, which is highly unusual for golfing in the GTA.

Re: 2015 Season Golf Thread

First round of the year yesterday. Haven't swung a club since February in Mexico and this place didn't have a range.

Par'd the first hole. This frigging game.

Shot a 90 with only 3 GIR's, but had 5 up and downs.

Re: 2015 Season Golf Thread

First round of the year...shot 90...then followed it up with my worst round in years...106.

lol

That's exactly what I did every year when I was playing. First round of the year was always really good then the second round was garbage.

Re: 2015 Season Golf Thread

Im practicing much less this year.

Was hoping to break 80 this year but I just do not think Ill put in the time needed.

Re: 2015 Season Golf Thread

Got an eagle the on the 18th the other day (holed out my pitch). The rest of the round ... not so much.

Massive congrats. No matter how much I might dislike you as a poster, an eagle is amazing.

I played from the tips for the first time ever today. Was out with two colleagues that are 5-7 handicaps. I figured, "fvck it, why not" and played along. Ended up shooting a 92. Still only about 6800 yards, but felt damn good.

Re: 2015 Season Golf Thread

Thanks, man. Those don't come too often.

Always play better with low handicappers. Unfortunately, I've got a game Saturday with a golf pal who invited his dad and his dad's bud, who are probably both 30+ handicappers. Bracing for the worst.

Re: 2015 Season Golf Thread

I play my own game.

Only thing that bothers me is guys that play slow. I dont care if you are a +3 or a 27...just dont take 6 years to hit the ball. That gets into my head. Slow play is the worst.

Re: 2015 Season Golf Thread

I can handle slow ish of they're pretty good. It's the looking for balls in the tall grass that kills me.

Re: 2015 Season Golf Thread

Played again yesterday. Finished the round in 3:15.

Doesn't get better than that.

Re: 2015 Season Golf Thread

Funny how it's so easy to play down to the weak link in a foursome.

Yeah, not sure why this happens, but my game goes up when playing with low handicappers and down with high handicappers. Though now that I'm playing regularly and getting my game together with better consistency, I'm less affected by this. Played with 3 low handicappers on Thursday and then 3 high handicappers this morning ... game was close on both rounds.

The thing that may throw me off with high handicappers is them not knowing certain important etiquette things -- namely, not standing in your line behind your shot. That one drives me a bit off.

In terms of slowness, I prefer ready golf rather than slowing everything down with people giving honours on every shot that's away.
