Habs Season Thread: Offseason 2025

I'd like to get rid of Laine... Struble and Wifi would be #7 and 8 dmen... and I just totally forgot to include Dach.

Caufield - Suzuki - Slafkovsky
Heineman - Duchene - Demidov
Anderson - Dach -Gallagher
Newhook -Evans- Xhekaj

Guhle - Hutson
Matheson - Ekblad
Reinbacher - Carrier

Montembault
Primeau

Armia, Wifi, Struble
I expect bigger changes than that. But we'll see . . .

I mean, yeah. As much as I'd love to get Duchene and Ekblad, it's pretty unlikely that we get both of them... I feel there's a reasonable chance we get Duchene, but even then, I wouldn't bet on it.

There's likely to be plenty of moves that we can't anticipate.

Hence my original statements that it takes a long time. And it’s depressing watching other teams 8 years forward. I might be dead by then.
Present Habs team is a notch below in high end talent vs TBay & present Make Beliefs teams. Unless Habs somehow land McKenna next draft or prospect significantly exceeding expectations (Demigod, Hage, Fowler), the only other option is via trade or UFA.

Mentioned last week, this summer will be very revealing: the org has lots of positivity as tailwind driven by young talented core at all positions (except 2C option) & a hockey whisperer coach, if that doesn’t move the needle towards helping lure that forever covered asset via UFA, or trade (2C and or RD) its game over, and the org will need to try to exclusively build a winner from within (I.e drafting & development) as Jets are required to & hope to catch lightning in a bottle

Draft Schaefer 1OA, potentially deal Dobson + Avs 1st for Chi 3OA to pick Hagens AND trade for Matheson for present NYI D group
- minute eating LD is lacking w NYI, Pelech played the role but is a 16-18TOI D

By all accounts none of the top end of this draft class is NHL ready - with Misa being the closest

Retool on the fly…
Martone is the closest , built like an ox

Largely . . . but he seems a little unsure of himself . . . but he is only 20 and not everyone has Slaf’s “swagger.”
Different personality for sure, Slaf is a bit more flamboyant while David seems a bit more reserved, maybe a bit shy, but he seems fairly confident, we'll see how he handles adversity.

But Slaf also seem more likely to get in trouble in this market. :)

Slafkovsky may be more flamboyant, but he needs to be more consistent and start playing in October, not February.

Anyway, they are young. Still plenty of runway.
