Hey Nerds: Blockchain

Do you guys work anymore? Because I can honestly say the market is robbing me of all my mornings. But at least it’s over by 1 pm for me. For you guys it eats up the whole day. How do you do it? By 1 pm I’m fried, and I’m not even doing anything 99% of the time, just planning my next target and watching the portfolio move up and down.

took +5 on the remainder....want a peaceful lunch after a fun morning

I'm a freelancer, so make up for it during evenings and weekends.

As a long term investor, no way should you be looking at the market screen all day. Not only is it draining (as you say), and fucks with your mood and stress levels unnecessarily, it also increases your chances of making an impulsive mistake with a long term play.

It's addictive stuff, so maybe try to look at your folio a few times a day (open, 12P et, and close). Even that's too much. Ideally, you should look at it once a month (unless the world is falling apart), maybe once a week if you're the active type. Come up with a plan on the wkds and enter your limit orders (buy or sell) and walk away.

The ol' low volume lunchtime dip. I bought the dip, riding a bullish position with a tight stop. I'll try again if this fails. Have a weird feeling we get kangaroo action since the bears feel weak in this slow grind down.

eventually i'm hoping to stagger my days, trade in the AM and probably move onto other commitments by 11am-1pm depending on the day. Or trade the full day and work on other shit in the evening/wknds.

i'm self employed with a few businesses and on going projects so if i can pull this off, the flexibility day trading can offer would be pretty dope.

I have to make more at trading than I pull in during a shift as a pharmacist to justify not being at work. so that's my minimum bread target for the day. definitely doable with some more time, education, and getting rid of bad habits.

but yeah like ch1 said if i'm a long term investor theres no way i'm checking my folio as often as a day trader. i'm too much of a fiend for that dopamine.

If I had more discipline (working on it) I whould walk away from 11am to 2:30 90% of the time. I only do so occasionally. You don't really miss much action during those hours.

Yup this is all meaningless chop. I usually play larger positions when it's like this and play the ranges. Not expecting much percentage-wise but it'll be worth my time due to my position size.

yeah, seems like most of the action dies down around then so its a good time to fuck off and do other shit. luckily i have business partners who will wonder what the fuck im doing all day, so that forces my hand.

It doesn’t change my decision making on my portfolio. If anything it sharpens my focus and keeps me informed. I’m not looking because I want to sell or trade. I’m not selling unless it’s a company that I was down on that I want to get rid of. I am looking to buy though, so I’m mostly watching to see if I can identify another good company. But I just love it, it’s pure crack. And as crack it totally fucks with my focus for other things like work, which I just do halfheartedly in the mornings (unless on a deadline) and then get to real work after 1 pm.

I hear ya. It's a great dopamine trap, but think of what else you could be doing with your energy. Very draining, as you said.

Decided to roll some of my profits into Aphria. Longer hold as it seems cup and handly and a bit of a laggard play as well.

BTW, I've only been fixed to the screens 24/7 since COVID hit and all my gigs suddenly vaporized.

Prior to that, I was a run of the mill addict who would check my phone every half hour except for the last half hour where I would disappear until 4p.

And before that I wasn't as confident in my abilities (and would generally get wrecked during volatile times) so I stayed the mother fuck away.

The upside is that if one can develop a consistent skill set, trading is something one can do when they're 73 years old and hanging out anywhere in the world.
