Hey Nerds: Blockchain

i would argue that's you using a trading mentality (buy dips, sell rips) to generate cash flow.....what we're talking about is long term investors who don't know how to sell losers/keep winners

In a way, yes. We've discussed this in the past and my idea of long-term investing is different than yours. I think it's important to sell when you feel the value of a particular company exceeds what you think they are worth. I did not think GTII was worth $3-4b a couple years ago when I sold at ~$23 or $24 and they were posting huge losses and barely making any revenue. I bought at $10 when they were worth barely $1b before any of the dilution. So I sold at 23-24 fully realizing the speculative nature of these stocks will surely bring it down to reasonable levels when despair hits as you can justifiably price them in a very very wide range of prices. I guess that's where my trading mentality comes in, but it's a long-term mindset too. I did not feel the risk-reward was great at that particular time; right now my opinion is likely a bit different. It's less risky at that market cap than it was 2 years ago. When the value of that particular stock greatly exceeds what I had in mind or what I think it's worth, it's time to take some or all off.

The only thing I'm comfortable in going long with.. As in, never selling no matter how long I have it, is VTI. Individual companies will always have an exit for me, even if they continue going parabolic forever like we've seen from some companies.

With that mindset, my point is "trading" or "investing" in marijuana stocks suits my strategy more than any other because the volatile nature maximizes my gains depending on what part of the hype cycle we are in. These things run 50% in a week at times. And then fall just as quickly.

For sure. Part of that is the cannabis sector is a story driven market, and not really an efficient market, so it allows you to game that inefficiency on a daily/weekly basis.

3:50 robot pushed the market higher but i'm fading that sucker, because AAPL lagged

Yup. At times we've seen the best possible case scenario priced in when these companies weren't making shit. It wasn't easy at the time because of the hype and euphoria (and it's easy to get caught up in it) but in hindsight it was an easy, obvious sell when we were pricing in some of the shit we priced in back in the sector's heyday. For the Canadian names, those best case scenarios did not even remotely play out (yet), but we're definitely getting there with the MSOs. A lot less speculative than they once were, but my point is that there's still likely a cap and a clear sell point for them too. I'm not married to go ultra long with anything. We'll see if things get crazy in the end.

a bubble market like vintage Canadian Cannabis is mostly making sure you're not the last guy holding inflated paper

AAPL -- rather fortuitous timing on my part, allows me to take a profit and put my stop at break even. i love free trades.

only that initial modest profit in the end....

trying my AAPL put play again today; got some puts at 441 level, stop is 442.25.

very short term trade as those options expire next week, and with earnings in September, not sure what the catalyst would be. So, interesting to keep an eye on.

did you get any scoop on CINTAS related industry?

Not yet. Was swamped yesterday plus the Leafs game. Hopefully today.

C'mon AAPL, stop teasing, make a new LOD and give it up on the short side. I need the $$$ to buy the new iMac you revealed yesterday.

You’re a terrible influence. Why don’t you stick to demotivating the already corrupt pot stocks and leave innocent tech alone.

How does ATVI not go up today, not to mention by like $10 or more? Bullshit to say it was all priced into the recent run up and that earnings were actually a bit of a letdown. This stock is so abused.

I know...that stock has always been hard to figure out. So I avoid it....
