Hey Nerds: Blockchain

So looking to try out investing. Looking to do some research as I have no idea what you guys are talking about for the most part. Do you recommend any software or sites I can read up on?

Investopedia for websites. A ton of beginner level stuff on there.

When you figure out what kind of investing you want to do, I can direct you to more specific sources. Even if you just end up with everything in an index fund, it pays to understand the game.

And I am still sitting on some in my portfolio and looking to put in about half but this volatility scares me. I need to get a quick hit, in and out, any more suggestions?

Don't feel like firing up the charts right now, but here's the coles notes for you to take a look at.

Suncor
- Looking for a trend reversal as it just broke the downward trend it's been in since March. Would set my stop at that big nasty bottom they had in December, 35.53. It's just bumping up against the 20sma right now, I wouldn't enter until it's over the 20, I hate trading against the 20. Even if it's not breaking out of the long term downtrend, there's room to run to the 1st price resistence level at 42.77.....if it rejects, pull the pin and take profit.

Apple
- Solid long term uptrend with enough movement between the higher highs and higher lows to make coin off of. Support at 192.58 (and where I would set my stop if I wanted to ride), 221.37 resistance, where I would get off if it rejected.

Roku
- CH's favourite stock is in a long term uptrend. Had a nice run recently that I wouldn't chase (RSI of 74 right now, so the move will probably run out of steam shortly) but if it pulled pack into the low 130's I'd consider entering.

If I had to pick one for a quick hit, Suncor has a history of rallying hard after hitting bottom and then throw in the geopolitics of oil always being volatile in a world where Venezuela is a basketcase, Trump is the president and Iran is jacking tanker ships. That's probably where I'd go. Just watch for resistance at the 50 day sma (39.80 right now)

Strong close on SPY today. Good to see. Recession canceled?

WEED still hanging on tightly... Hard to read if it has hit bottom and big/smart money spent today and Friday accumulating or if today was just weak shit and more downside is coming. If SPY stabilizes, you'd have to think it's only a matter of time before things go the opposite way, right? Shitstorm of a company at the moment, with no profitability in sight, but at the end of the day they are the leaders in an enormous industry. Eventually the hype will come back and they will lead the way. As is the norm.

CL/OH had a huge surge EOD and a couple other MSOs looked nice as well EOD. I actually sold half of my OH earlier in the day at 7.15 because I did not like how things were looking; I then re-bought at 6.80. Nice to have a great day sprinkled into the recent shitstorm. Hardly promising or encouraging, but it's a reminder that shit can sometimes go green too. IAN is up on deck tomorrow morning for earnings. I suspect they'll be awful but awful is very much priced in, much like the APHA case.

CURA then will report after hours and Green Thumb Wednesday after hours. Any positive reaction is doubtful based on recent history but it's always a good reminder to see who is worth investing in long-term.

Just got paid from my card churning gig; about $5000 US. Looking to dump that into my US trading account which consists of nothing but an index fund at the moment (I usually just put my churning money in that fund). May want to look into playing a bit with that tiny bit of capital but I definitely need to do some homework. Thanks for the suggestions, ME. Suncor looks real interesting.

What is that. 5 billion aeroplan points?

As for Canopy, they got an upgrade this am.
450,000 points. They lowered the rate recently which sucks. Could have gotten an extra 500-750 a couple years ago but it is what it is.

Been grabbing a lot of other cards now that amex is tightening up anyway. Didn't get the wb on the personal plat and bonvoy so I'm definitely flagged. They refunded the AF at least. Still pulling in about 10k per year in travel and cash between the spouse and I. Seems like there will always be opportunity but eventually the 10k will turn into 5 and it may only get worse from there. Still an effortless way to make money though.

As for the general market, I’m measuring my current trades in hours, instead of weeks or months.

the market is basically reacting to Trump tweets. So my approach is to react to the latest tweet, and get out before the next one.

Worked great last night. Made my weekly nut before going to bed. Just one trade today — dumpster dived GWPH at 138. Was at 170 just 2 weeks ago after posting stellar earnings.

Crushing it!

So back on these MSOs.. I did say that I believe they are being shorted to shit, but after looking at short numbers as a whole... They're really not all that staggering on these names. The lack of institutional buying + cheap paper from these gradual share unlocks have been driving these prices down. When you rely 100% on retail, trends won't change until overall sentiment changes. Canadian names may need to pick up first if there is no immediate catalyst for the US.

Anyway, IANs earnings today were kind of shit, but nothing unexpected, and frankly maybe even a little better than some expected. CURA's are today after hours.. Perhaps there is some hope for some media hype over high revenues as they are the big dog in the US, but I'm not holding my breath. Eventually shit will change if SPY remains stable and some of the FUD tones down, but I'm afraid there's too much uncertainty for high-risk speculative stocks to surge in the short-term.

I've held VIDA for a while. They were hammered for a questionable website purchase a while ago. But they seem like a good purchase to me at these levels. Like their management group. And nationwide CDB opportunities should present themselves soon.

Dumped the few dope stocks for a very small profit. Getting back into the oil patch with beaten down stocks like Baytex

I'm banking coin in my trading acct.

But in my longer term accts, my current goal is to tread water. Cheap index puts and long gold/silver are keeping my losses contained.
