Hey Nerds: Blockchain

Long piece on TRUL by some random dude — not everything is rosy but found this bit informative.

https://seekingalpha.com/article/4368728-investors-embrace-trulieve-results

As of August 6th, Florida had 389,235 qualified patients with active medical marijuana user ID cards and about 5,000 new patients are being added each week. That represents only about 1.8% of the state's population so there is plenty of room to grow. It has been suggested that those with medical marijuana IDs may, in fact, buy product for family and friends; therefore, actual consumers probably exceed the number with OMMU IDs. If and when Floridians approve recreational consumption, the growth in sales will be astronomical since Florida welcomes 130 million vacationers a year.

Didn't even think about the additional tourism revenue legalization would bring in. Not to mention folks crossing the border to buy as we've seen that factor in huge in illinois' neighboring states. I'd imagine in Florida it would be less of a factor, geographically speaking, but it's something.

As I said rec legalization doubles revenue at the very least imo. But trulieve needs to look at the long game and expand. I will always have questions until that happens.

Oh and side note: have to consider the possibility that we'll see equity raises on some MSOs to capitalize on these big rallies. So dilution may be coming. GTI is cash flow positive and have a solid amount of cash in the "bank" but if they want to get more aggressive (may not be a bad option) they could be a candidate to raise cash. Just something to look out for.

Terrascend also a big candidate to raise cash as they sti have to finance their ilera acquisition in PA (far more likely to raise than GTI). I'd say they're almost guaranteed to raise. Just a question of when. Might be why they pre announced earnings....

Cost of capital will be key — some of these co’s had to pay 14% interest. Ridiculous. So, if they simply get modestly ripped off this time around, it might be perceived as a huge win.

Many names did 200-300%. Diluting at these levels ain't so bad. GTIIs last raise was at $20 and was one of their keys to their success. As was their 2-3 bagger investment in IAN. Bullet dodged there. Everything went right for them.

But anyway TER diluting at let's say 5.50 or 6 bucks may not be a bad thing. Bought deals before you're profitable. Once profitable, take on debt. That's typically the mantra that not every mso followed (mostly because their share prices were beaten up).

I'm excited about today. I'm always a bit cautious about buying Curaleaf and holding into earnings because in all honesty they very rarely blow the doors off (in relation to their market cap) but hopefully they get enough of a run today to tempt me to sell my excess shares. The good news is analysts are projecting minimal growth so they won't have to do much. Would be nice to see that proforma revenue approaching or surpassing $170m but that may not happen as their growth has been modest compared to others lately due to being in several states lacking growth/great opportunity (for now!). We'll see.. their huge footprint makes it next to impossible to project revenues. Next quarter will have Grassroots revenue which is nice. No more of that proforma shit.

I think the main appeals for them is first and foremost, their fucking enormous footprint that cannot be compared to others (which, at this point is kind of increasing their cash burn and CapEx more than anything as they're nowhere near profitable in most markets.. Need to get that sorted out, especially with their ample debt), and specifically their positioning in NY and other key states that haven't yet had the kind of growth that Illinois, PA, etc. have showed. Their market cap is gigantic compared to their peers so they have to do a lot to justify it. It may take a while to see that happen, if it happens at all. But when NY/NJ legalize they immediately likely become a $1b+ company. They have presences in almost every state, but they aren't the leader in many other than NY. So far, a more limited footprint, while being the leader in a few key high growth states has been they strategy for success as it ensures profitability in as many states as possible. But that can change of course.

TLDR: I have mixed feelings on Curaleaf. I'll always hold a piece because I think it's important to hold the leaders, much like I held Canopy during the LP bull runs. Plus the sheer scale of this company provides them enormous upside - they'll likely be the first to pull in a billy annually which is a nice headline. But it's a bit all over the place and a very expensive business model that hasn't proven itself just yet.

Fuck yes. We have a break. Give me $13. So glad I pivoted to CURA as my top holding for now. It has room to catch up.

EDIT: Sold half of my extra shit at 12.42. Might play the earnings lotto on the rest + my core of course.

TRUL dropping lower than where I sold most of my shares is an added bonus too. May add a tiny bit if it gets ugly. Needs a lot of consolidation.

Could be the PA news about their huge growth. They pre-announced earnings and got a nice run from it already. Maybe this is part 2. Or maybe it's something else. Who knows.

boring day...ES gets interesting if it can't hold 3375

trimming some DLTR calls for a 33% profit

Curaleaf smacks a NHOD. Tempt me baby. Tempt me to sell the rest. I fucking dare you.

Trulieve strong. Gorgeous consolidation. Thumb sideways which is nice. Everything is going how I expected it tbh. Cresco an Curaleaf were weak Friday and strongest today. It all balances out in the end folks. MSO carousel.

The only one I couldn't predict today and suck at predicting in general is TER. No idea what's up with that but I'll take 'er.
