HHN/ESPN/TNT ... broadcasting access, tips and notes

With Paramount‘s recently closed acquisition of Warner Brothers Discovery, the new company, called Skydance, may look to move some sports programming from TNT to CBS. With TNT scheduled to broadcast the Stanley Cup Final this season, Bettman advocated for the merger, believing that the league would draw a larger audience on a network rather than cable. But distribution agreements that Warner Brothers Discovery signed before the merger could complicate things. Cable companies and other distribution platforms like DirecTV and YouTube TV based on the quality and exclusivity of the content. If Skydance moved programming off TNT to CBS, the cable companies aren’t getting the value from TNT that they expected.

Sundheim said in another tweet that DirecTV isn’t carrying the the other 3 teams that are using the NHL for game production either and the league has been at the table with them for months.

They have until the end of the month. I called and told them that I would be leaving after more than 15 years with them along with the friends I have referred. I paid for one month of the prime access channel and if they don’t have it by then I’ll cancel directv

What I love about adding HHN to Prime is they conveniently added the little Canes icon top right on my Prime Video home page and last night I was toggling back and forth between the Canes game and Thursday night football seamlessly…the Prime Video app on my phone and tv’s never seem to disappoint.

Yeah, that's the thing with the streaming age ... unless you're sticking with cable, you kind of have to be willing to shift platforms as needs dictate.

OK Amazon take my Benjamin
If it's any consolation, at least the broadcasts work well, are easy to access and don't cut in and out they way they did on the last streaming platform. Right on par with my experiences with ESPN+

I don’t recall seeing this reported here but it appears that YouTubeTV now includes ESPN Unlimited which includes a ton of out of market NHL games (and some AHL too). No price change.

This was a part of the resolution of the carriage dispute between YTTV and ABC last year.

They integrated ESPN+ content to YTTV this past month.

I can still subscribe to HNN through Prime but that doesn't get us ESPN games. Also compromises MLB playoff and world series coverage.

FUBO is $89 a month. No thanks. YouTube is about the same. If Spectrum would sell you cable without forcing internet on you, I'd gladly go back to Spectrum. But I'm not going back to Spectrum Internet. And I've yet to find a way to get cable without going back to their internet. No one hates the modern world of TV more than I do. Having to bounce between 6 different apps, instead of simply pulling up a guide and going to the show you want to watch.
