I think Schwartz can be inconsistent, I remember one ordering a "lean" one and it being completely dry and needing to lather it in mustard. I'll take your word for Dunn's, I once went to the one in Ottawa and the meat might have been rotten and I got food poisoning (bon appetit habs59 if you're reading this before dinner).
Snowdon Deli is better than both . . . but I wouldn’t send a tourist there. He should just go to the vastly overrated Schwartz’s, it’s an iconoclastic restaurant in Montreal even if the smoked meat is inconsistent, which it is.

With winter coming La RACLETTE in between plateau & Lil Italy is very very good

Went to Foxy Sat night on Notre-Dame (not sure if that’s Little Burgundy, Griffintown or Shaugnessy village)… regardless it was fabulous

i quite enjoyed Foxy but my clothes smelled of burning wood for days

La Raclette is a good suggestion because there’s a 99.9% chance you’ll never make that at home

Really? I make raclette quite often, such an easy pleasing friend gathering dinner.

it’s not hard but most people have not even heard of the dish, never mind having the equipment to make it at home

Different background I guess, it’s was a staple in my parents home, and I’ve always had a raclette grill but I’ve also introduced the dish to many of my friends.

my parents had a raclette grill (because Quebec) but I think it’s pretty exotic in the rest of North America

Depends on a lot of factors. Are you by yourself? With friends? With wife? With wife & kids?

To eat, go to Schwartz for smoked meat sandwhiches, that's the one place that everyone has to try at least once.

Here's a link with a lot of information asto what you could do in Montreal for food & drinks:

Don't waste your time in a 2 hour line up for Schwartz's. Go to The Main across the street. Just as good but not touristy.

2 hours? What?

Like, yeah, if you go to Schwartz on a Friday/Saturday/Sunday at noon, you're going to wait a while, but two hours? Stop.

the lack of lineups at The Main speaks volumes....the wisdom of crowds is underrated when it comes to food
The only reason they have lineups at Schwartz's is because it became a tourist trap as soon as Celine got involved. I used to go there back in the day and never had to line up. Now in the summer they're lined up down the block to get in.

Same thing with Philly cheesesteak. Every tourist goes to Geno's but around the corner at Pat's is where the locals go.

untrue…I know from personal experience that lineups preceded Celine’s involvement…. Most people give zero shits about her stake. You’re giving her waaaaay too much credit. She didn’t make that place popular

Schwartz's, Rueben`s , and Main deli are all located in the heart of downtown .....perfect for large volumes of people who are there

Stop, just stop.

It's been a tourist attraction for virtually my whole life.

when 400k Anglos took the 401 to find their new digs in TO back in the 80s, that ensured a lifetime of expats lining up whenever they visited their home town
