[Injury News] Frederik Andersen possible concussion?

Hmmmm...

Garret Sparks has now joined Curtis McElhinney and Steve Briere on the ice

Well I guess it's a good thing if Andersen is joining the rest of the team in regular practice. I guess we'll have to see what Babs says in post practice interview.

And I don't know how to interpret the fact Sparks was with the Leafs for practice. Just for precaution? Or are they going to recall him?

well they need 2 goalies just to conduct a regular practice,.

in other news - KAPANEN is at practice too.

Oooooohhhh. Now that's interesting. Replacing Smith with him would be a pretty awesome upgrade.

Throw Kapenen on the first line. Give Matthews someone with wheels and skill on both sides

would really suck.

but would be a little bit funny too.

Andersen has his own net to start practice ... Sparks just watching for now

Beauty. Good news all around so far. Andersen appears to be OK, and Kapanen looks to have received a well-earned recall.

Hopefully this means Saturday is the last we'll ever see of Ben Smith in a Leaf jersey.

per Leafs: Kapanen and Sparks officially called up, but Sparks only on emergency basis.

Oh wow, good news all around indeed.

And I'm surprised they called up Kapanen. I guess he replaces Sosh on the 4th line???

Sparks may be a better backup indeed, but when they claimed ElMac they obviously felt he was better. I don't think they'll go with Sparks now.

ElMac has been either very good (.940+) or very bad (.900 or worse) in his starts for the Leafs ... kinda a 50-50 split too. He wasn't good in the BUF game but then the team was pretty lifeless too.

And he can provide the 4th with some offense with that speed. If he gets a step on a guy not many will catch him

Would much rather see him on the top 2 lines but if hes on the 4th so be it. At least he is in the lineup

Babs is no dummy, so even if Kap starts on the 4th line, I'm pretty sure he'll make his way to at least the 3rd line by game's end.

tbh - decent chance sparks would be a better option than mcelhinney as backup.
Agreed. I actually still like Sparks. He fell apart down the stretch as a rookie playing behind an awful team in full-on tank mode, but that's really the only bad hockey he's played in the last four seasons. In the AHL, he's been consistently exceptional for the most part.
