Jack Johnson - Bankrupt

Re: 2014-15 Miscellaneous League News and Discussions

Wasn't Jack Johnson's dad a big part of the problem the Canes had getting him to leave school and play for the Canes? Unfortunately even your own family members cannot always be trusted when it comes to large sums of money.

Re: 2014-15 Miscellaneous League News and Discussions

Bejeezus! We had the impression that Jack, Sr. was a dirtbag even back then with little to prove it, but now... It seems mama Tina is even far worse. I cannot imagine how parents can let themselves become so blinded by money - that isn't even received yet, that they will so betray their own child, as nothing more than a cash cow. I hate it for JJ, as much as I dislike him, I would never have wished upon him anything like this.

was already being discussed in the miscellaneous thread... maybe want to move those posts here?

I feel bad for the guy... never cared for the way he did us, but it was apparent even then that the dad was a big, big issue.

He needs to really press charges on his parents, if nothing more than to regain his equilibrium in the parent-child relationship. He needs to fight back.

It really makes me feel sorry for the guy, but I'm glad we parted company with him. Guess his parents thought he (or they) could do better with him playing somewhere else, which was the rumor back in 2006 anyway.

As a CPA in public practice there was nothing in that story I have not seen before or that was a surprise.

Do you have see any common thread among people who (until the situation is revealed) seem to have a trusting relationship between parties? I'm just curious because I observed a similar situation with in-laws where the child was misusing their POA/access to funds for an aging widower'd parent. It' been resolved now (well the money is gone, but they've protected what's left and have someone else managing his money), but I've always been curious as to what the mindset was. Do they typically think that somehow/someway, the hole will start getting filled instead of getting deeper?

But I totally get how it took him awhile to realize and unravel what was actually going on -- even when you observe things that don't make sense, it takes awhile to acknowledge/accept that people you know/love had the nerve to actually be this stupid/selfish....because you just can't even fathom it.

Child actors used to have issues like this . Now there are laws, at least in CA, that require that child actors have trust funds that cannot be used until they hit 18. Most of the money they make goes into those funds.

It's amazing how people will justify their own actions or rationalize the actions of others. It's generally a relatives issue because outsiders can't get the access. Does it happen by outsiders - yes, but just not as often.

It takes a LOT for me to have warm feelings for Jack Johnson, but right now I really feel for the guy. Yeah, you HAVE to be smarter than that, but it's your parents, so ...

This also completely reinforces the opinion most Canes fans held while Johnson was playing at Michigan ... that his Dad is a giant amount toolbags. Cali has some unique ideas on community property in families, but I suspect he can make them hurt in court if he wants to go that route.

I'm with you, JB. The bottom line is that it looks like Johnson was the victim of a crime. There's should always be room in society for compassion for crime victims.

Quite a few cases of identity theft are parents taking kids identity to open credit cards, loans, etc. Some people even use the ID of kids who are 5 years old or less.
