JR to resign!

No way JB. If I had the cash and time to have full season tickets we would renew them every year regardless of the losing. Dedicated man, not crazy.

Go ahead and say it ... aside from me and a few other crazy people.

No, not crazy at all, loyal, patient, understanding...all great qualities JB...I certainly understand your affection for the ability to see all the best NHL talent come through Raleigh, it's just a shame that the team in Red is not better most nights!

On the Staal, Staal, Semin experiment.....I personally hate it. I don't think the Canes have the depth or luxury of investing that much money into a single line. Assuming no trades, between Staal, Staal, Skinner, and Semin you should be able to mix in the appropriate young player (Lindholm) or roles players to have two effective lines that are capable of producing true top 6 numbers. If you want to play both Staals and Semin at key moments in games when you need a goal I am fine with that, but a regular line makes no sense to me given their payroll and team's overall depth.

I agree. If we had an awesome 2nd line centre for Lindholm and Skinner, then maybe we could roll two scoring lines. But we can't afford that centre right now.

I don't see JR stepping away and sitting back. I firmly believe that if JR quits, then Francis will be the new puppet GM, with JR still in his ear on a daily basis. If Francis still wants the GM job?

I'd love to see some wholesale changes made with fresh, non-club members. I wish they'd get over this desire to keep it all in the family. Still shocked they hired Muller, who had ZERO ties to the organization. I think Muller might get one more year, unless JR fires him before he hands it off to Francis. I don't see Francis first assignment as GM being to fire Muller.

My expectation is that there will be talk of nuking the roster, and at the end of the day they'll toss a couple of M80s at it and call it done. It will be enough to deny that it's just lipstick on a pig, but no more. Much like last summer's activity. With the same result. Organizational nepotism is too ingrained for anything to change significantly, I think.

Yeah ... no. I could see Francis completely rejecting that setup well before I see him submitting to being a GM in name only. Ron Francis is a lot of things ... but you can count on the fact that he's got a lot of pride to go with that dignity.

The idea of Francis as GM is so surreal. Particularly if he winds up trading EStaal. But my money is on Ward being the only major piece shipping out, unless somebody wants to overpay.

My money is on Ward and Skinner gone.
Eric, Jordan and Alex stay.

Thinker with the whole Gerbe, Bowman, Nash, Dwyer and Manny sitituarion that basicly leaves us in the same position with different faces. It's not that I have no faith in Ron Francis, it's just going to be really, really hard to get out of this mess.

Francis as GM doesn't particularly excite me, but I think it does re-open the possibility of Dineen as a coach, which was unlikely under JR. Nothing against Muller, he's done what he could with what he had, but when the GM goes, the coach often doesn't last much longer either. I'd be all right with Daniels, and maybe shipping Brind'Amour to Charlotte to fill Daniels' shoes there if they're going to stay within the organization. It's not like the Cherkers have been tearing up the AHL postseason in recent memory.

I don't get why people are OK with Daniels as the Canes coach. What has he accomplished? He would ONLY be getting the job because he's part of the club and would be cheap.

I am not ok with Daniels being the coach. I am also not ok with Eric Staal, Cam Ward, and Jim Rutherford having anything to do with the Canes next year. I want a complete blow up of all remaining long term Canes as a fresh start is required. None of the past laziness and crap needs to be around the locker room next year. Fresh start.

Regarding Francis as GM, I would only support that if JR is moved to a non-hockey role that is pretty much a ceremonial position to collect a paycheck for his dedicated service to the franchise over the years. If Francis gets a shot he can't have JR breathing down his neck or even in the picture for it to be fair. Enjoy the paycheck and stay at home with the family JR. As much as I want you gone now, you have earned it over the years.

I don't want to see Francis as GM or Daniels as coach. I'd rather stick with Muller than switch for Daniels.

I don't agree HockeyPat that it's going to be really really hard to get out of this mess.

Bottom line, this team is not far off on talent. We're missing a top end D, a Center, and depth and size in the system. Filling out bottom 6 positions isn't really really hard.

I have been very critical of 12, and think that if we can move him for assets coming in I'd be good with that. However, I think he's also has the ability to be much better than the sum of what we could get for him. So, if JR goes, and we bring in someone from the outside, and either refocus Muller or bring in someone else that can get him going, that works too. I think with JR out of the picture, if they get someone from outside, that can go a long way in terms of shaking things up.

On the bright side, this team has significantly underperformed. They're a player or two and tweaks from being a contender and most of that gap is mentality.

Our contract situation is getting better. We no longer are saddled with way overpaying for players nobody else really wants for the money - Gleason, Jussi, Ruutu, Pitkanen, maybe Ward, and now just by allowing time to pass and a couple moves and not making more of those kinds of moves, we're down to Liles and maybe Ward. Sure we might need to make some adjustments, but since the talented assets on this team are on market level contracts, moves can be made to adjust that mix.

My biggest concern is that they'll bring in someone who learned under JR and will basically continue the same course under a new GM instead of shaking things up somewhat.

To quote Boss Taggert:
*AH* am purely de-pressed!
What in the wide, wide world of sports is goin' on here?
...jumpin' around like a buncha Kansas City faggots

What a team, what a spectacle!

But... while Jim Rutherford is pretty hands-on, I've not seen anything that suggests he's dictated to nor interfered with coaching, I wouldn't expect he would try to control Ron Francis as GM. If he did, RF would likely stand his ground or resign. And my concern with Francis is - almost just the opposite - that HE has caused or pushed the GM into making some poor signings, vis-a-vis his championing some can't miss flops: Paradis, Nash, Welsh, et. al. And JR has gotten out of many of those.

Yup. I've said that several times and I completely agree. There's no way in heck Francis signs up to be anybody's puppet. If he takes this job, it will be to actually do the job. Not sure how I feel about his readiness level, but one thing I know for sure is that he'll be his own man. In fact, if Ronnie turns down the opportunity, it might be a big old red flag because it might mean that President and Owner really just want a rubber stamp in the GM's office. That would be a bigger problem IMO than hiring a green GM.

There's no way Rod goes to Charlotte. He has three teenage kids and is very involved in coaching his son Skyler, who is a very promising players in the Junior Hurricanes program.

Yup ... people have been trying to fit Brindy into all osrts of coaching roles around here for years without realizing that the guy literally wants no part of any of that. At least not right now.

I think that one of the more astute comments I have heard about the possible changing of the guard on Edwards Mill.
