Leaf Rumours

Fraser's no doubt clinging to his +18 like grim death in this case.

as for seeya...I don't think the leafs can walk away unless it's 3.5m or more or something like that.

Dion`s stats in his career look great thanks to that terrific start offensively at such a young age. The fact is, Kessel is getting better yearly while Dion is not.

Again, not a knock on him. Dion is very good and very underrated at this point. But I sign Kessel first 10 out of 10 times.

Dion's stats also look great because he's finished 12th and 9th in Dman scoring the past two years.

Fraser and his agent have to be nuts. Don't they realize that even if he is awarded anything significantly above the 850k the Leafs are offering (let alone the $2M they're seeking), the Leafs will simply walk away from the award and he'll be left scrambling for another team willing to offer him a one-way 850k contract?

we can't walk away.

Really? That is a potential disaster. Why would you even qualify that guy?

If a contract is less than a certain amount can you send them down without counting against the cap?

From the CBA:

(6) For any Player on a One-Way NHL SPC who is Loaned to
a club in another professional league, the Averaged
Amount of such SPC less the sum of the Minimum
Paragraph 1 NHL Salary and $375,000 for that League
Year (e.g., $900,000 in 2012-13) for the period during
which such Player is Loaned to such professional league;
plus

Min. salary this year is $550,000. So anything over $925,000 will count against the cap.

Can't see a #6 dman getting more than that in arbitration, but who knows if they are asking for $2 million.

Wasn't it the fact that Fraser took it to arb. I think though an arb can't make it a guaranteed one way deal no?

Dion is physical, but he decided to take the last five minutes off, in the biggest game of his life. As a captain. Is it just bad timing and bad luck on his part? Who knows, who cares, but the Leafs are shopping him like a 300 pound wife that won't give head.

Is he much better than Luke Schenn? Yes. So he has some talent and brings some things to the table. But wow, he totally shit a small bed on the third and fourth Bruin goals. He was tossed aside like a baby by Chara on goal four, and was just totally out to lunch on goal three. I mean it was BAD. And that just killed him in Toronto. On the bench, the dressing room and upstairs.

So save your stats, your defence of the guy, your whole salary cap structure next year with Dion in it. He AIN'T in the lineup next year, and its killing them that he is in it now.

No, he didn't. He was tripled shifted and exhausted...he played something like the final 2:40 of the 3rd period. That's an obscenely long shift...

phaneuf needed to be better. chara played a ton and found a way to get it done.

but that said it is completely and utterly ridiculous to pin the loss on phaneuf. kessel aside he's the least of the team's concerns.

as for whether or not he is on the trade block -- i think the fact that carlyle felt that he had no choice but to play phaneuf for nearly 3 minutes straight says all you need to know.

I cannot say whether Carlyle still thinks highly of him, but I can tell you there is someone very important upstairs that has gotten Nonis to offer him to every team in the NHL for a song. Chara played more than Phaneuf, and is almost a decade older. Phaneuf showed he is NOT a money player, at least this year he did. He is still young I suppose.

Get Killer93 to confirm, they are trying desperately to get rid of him. I personally think its nuts. But I don't have to sit beside him in the dressing room and look at his forehead.

chara got burns all over the place these playoffs. especially in the finals. not a money player.

Phaneuf just led a team everyone thought would suck, filled with a bunch of 20 year olds, to their best finish in a decade. He was the most important player on the team all year. Anyone who wants to dump him sucks at hockey and probably life.
