Leaf Rumours

And Stamkos is a really special player. You're not going to find too many guys like him, if any. He's essentially Yzerman.

Agreed.

Though getting Marleau for free this summer and keeping Schenn and Tlusty would be far more preferable.

I'd say wait till the offseason and go for Vinny if we can't land any star UFAs.

I'd suspect that TO would be on his short list.

Trying to follow your reasoning (normally I can), but he grew up hating the Leafs (He's a true clown suit Habs fan), we're dead freaking last with no chance to win a cup anytime soon. Couple that with the fact, we're up against the cap now as well, and we have little to no assets that TB would want with possibly Schenn who's value is lower recently due to his play.

And no Vinnie is not what this team needs. We need our own Stamkos. A player to grow with kessel, Schenn, and Gustavsson. No need to help the lightning in shedding that salary, let another team like the Habs shackle themselves.

We have one of those in Kadri

Vinnie looks lost to me. Pre Cap, we could have just bought any of these guys. Anyone here MISS the cap? I know I sure do.

I meant a player to grow with Kessel and Gus.

I wouldn't ever compare Kadri toYzerman or Stamkos but I have a feeling he and Kessel will eventually make a deadly 1-2 punch

I meant Lecavalier to Toronto. Dream on. No way he takes that abuse from his hometown fans and no way Gainey doesn't match any offer. Staying in Tampa is one thing, willfully going to the Leafs is quite another, he would get ostracized.

You guys are going to have to give up the delusion that you have some kind of claim, official or otherwise, on Lecavalier.

I think Bitter Bud summed up why Vinny will not end up in Toronto, though I also don't think he'll ever be a Hab either. The only team with a claim, official or otherwise, on Lecavalier is Tampa Bay.

I don't think Lecavalier is worth that contract.

He's an $8m cap hit until he's 40. No thanks.

This

If we really want a centre that bad, and we're willing to suck up a big contract, I doubt Marleau gets a penny more than 6.25 an a term longer than 6 years.

I would rather do that, even if we have to go a bit higher to get him, than to pay 8 to Vinny after giving up Schenn & Tlusty to do it.

what scares me most about Vinny is that he simply hasn't been the same since his surgeries.

What scares me about Vinny is that after playing another shitty game at home the lone reporter for T. Bay, dressed in his bermuda shorts and hawaiian shirt, asks Vinny what bar he is cruising that night as if he can come along.

Vinny would ask for another trade from the Habs or Leafs soon after experiencing his first loss in either jersey, realizing the media up here sure ask a lot of tough questions.

Vinny has it easy...he's going to cruise to 1200 points and probably 500 goals...His name is already on the cup and he'll likely end up in the hall of fame at some point.

Very, very few reasons to want to leave Tampa

Yup. And it's not like the team is terrible. They've drafted two upcoming (one is already) young superstars in the last two years. They're on their way up again.

Even if the team is terrible....nobody cares.

It irks me that a lot of guys prefer playing in a place where they're more or less anonymous, but I kind of understand.

You have to understand, most of these guys have been pushing the envelope since they were seven or eight years old. Most of them love AND hate the game by the time they are 27. They are fried.

You have to pick the nutbars like Chelios and Mike Keane, who still suit up happily in the AHL, just to stay light, get paid and taste some blood. Although Chelios isn't pulling any shit these days from what I can see.
