Leaf Rumours

Who's going to give up better players than Hagman or Poni for them right now?

Not sure... maybe nobody... but then they would just hold onto them. I assure you that if they were authorized to bring in some scoring they are looking for top line players, not 2nd/3rd liners for good prospects.

Why kidding? Boedker isn't looking that hot and the 1st is no biggie for a youthful team like Phoenix.

And why would they trade all that for Kovalchuk, only to see him bolt at the end of the year (which we know he would if he was a Coyote).

You mean two relatively young and cheap 30 goal scorers?

Hagman is doing well, and sure we look to trade a guy when his value is high...

but as the article states, Hags is making 3 million for this and next 2 years. 3 mill for a for sure 2nd line line winger who can score in the high 20's in goals is a steal no???

I mean to me he is a perfect fit... came here when he could have gone to other teams.. good price for what he brings. Signed to a decent term.

I say you keep Hagman unless he is in a package that gets you a clear first line player.

He is a second line good player... package him with say Tlusty and Grabs to get that bonafide number one centre. Or a true future stud like Ryan... not potential in Boedeker and Mueller.

Just me thinking aloud.

Obviously they would need to be assured that he would sign.
I'm not saying that it would happen, but I was just pointing out that if they were authorized to spend some money that they would be looking for a legit 1st liner rather than some scoring depth.

Guys come on lets not get crazy, Hagman is not even worth a 1st round pick imo unless you find a really desperate/crazy GM. He has never cracked 45 points in his career. This isn't Gretzky we're talking about.

Gilbert Brule was traded for Raffi Torres
Benoit Pouliot was traded for Gulliam Latendresse

Wouldn't be the first time high picks were traded for non star players after a couple of years with little success.

If ATL can't sign him they might consider something like that.

Why would the Dogs trade top prospects for marginal second line players? Seriously?

I thought the "are you kidding" was directed at me and not LOF.

Atlanta would need more immediate help in a Kovalchuk deal, not to mention a team getting him would need to clear cap for dishing out the inevitable ginormous deal.

You mean a 30 year old who has never scored 30 and only come even close once.... and a a 29 year old that has never come close to 30 goals?

Nice try on the relatively young... and even nicer try on the 30 goal scorers.

Peter Mueller....the kid who hasn't been the same since the concussion, and has 4 points in 24 games this season, is worth a whole lot to somebody?

The kid definitely needs a change of scenery, and I'd be more than happy to see Burkie give it to him....however, we're talking about a kid who scored 36 points as a 20 yr old, and is on pace for 14 points as a 21 yr old....if you let his 54 point rookie campaign become more than a minor footnote in the trade discussions, you lose.
