Leaf Rumours

And you said he was very quiet and humble like his father. That is really cool in itself. His Dad is a legend in self imposed exile. He could make some money off of it. haha.

My rumours from now on are going to be incredible. The new Marlie coach is best friends with someone I talk hockey with on a daily basis. Should be really interesting stuff this year. The down and dirty.

The more i look at the free agent list, the more i think if we can move liles we should try to sign antropv on a cheapo deal. He'd be a great fit in the bottom 6, and good depth for injuries to the top 6.

JVR - Bozak - Kessel
Lupul - Kadri - Clarkson
Antropov - Bolland - Kulemin
McLaren - McClement - Orr
(Colborne - Ashton)

And he'd ensure that no kid gets into the lineup this year.

I'd love to go with Colborne on the third line, Biggs on the fourth line, and an Orr/McLaren platoon.

There should never be a season where at least one kid isn't given a shot.

Bill Watters went on Edmonton radio again to talk about how worthless Dion Phaneuf is and how Edmonton would like to trade for him.

You don't give kids opportunities in the NHL just for the sake of having kids in the lineup. You give kids an opportunity if they've earned it. So as far as Biggs or Colborne are concerned, barring an out-of-this-world performance at training camp, both need to show that they can even be above-average players at the AHL level before they're handed an NHL roster spot.

There is nothing wrong with starting at the bottom of the barrel. Its about the determination and talent combination. Obviously any kid with talent and determination should NOT be starting at an ECHL level. But there is nothing wrong with playing in the ECHL. Didn't Reimer and Scrivens spend some time down there? Neither of them are my idea of elite talents, but they scraped their way up to pose as NHLers, and I have to give them credit for that.

Too bad, certain flaws in their abilities get exposed under pressure, but that is the way with mediocre talent. Mediocre NHL talent that is. I am sure both would be stars at some level or another.

Guys, Colborne as shown that, when healthy, he can be as dominant at the AHL level as he needed to be. And at the NHL level he hasn't looked out of place at all in brief stints. He's earned it. And he's what, 23? It's time to start working him into the lineup or otherwise writing him off. And the third line is about as good a spot as to give him.

As for Biggs, whatever, I'd like to see what he can do, but even if not him, then one of the other kids who could carry 4th line duties.

NHL Training camps are weird animals. Guys come in during exhibition games and try to prove themselves. With the way Biggs' skating has improved and his willingness to play a physical game, he's exactly the kind of guy who ends up standing out at training camp. If he comes in, hits everything that moves, gets in a fight or two and contributes a few scoring chances, it's hard to see him getting bumped lower than the AHL.

he didn't stand out at the mini rookie camp. not a great start.

Colborne will be on the team this year from the start, no more AHL for him.

But that doesn't mean he should be gift wrapped a 3rd line spot.
